**AUTHOR PEEK** Character Interview with J. MORGAN
Editor’s Note: We met author, J. Morgan in a previous blog, so I thought you might enjoy meeting J.’s hero this time.
INTRODUCING…Patrick Michael Hughes, Character from STORMS OF CHAOS, Scrolls of Eternity Book Two, by J. Morgan.
1. What is your name? Do you have a nickname?
Karen, thanks for having me here. My full name is Patrick Michael Hughes. Nickname, hmmmm… If you can keep a secret, I do have a nickname to tell you. I’m really the superhero Horus!
2. Where were you born? Where have you lived since then? Where do you call home?
I’m from Valencia, California where I’m still in high school. My family is originally from New England but I’m basically a California kid. On the other hand, my alter ego, is really from a parallel dimension called Heliopolis. Thousands of years ago, his people crossed over into Egypt and basically became the basis for their gods. I guess you could say those guys on Ancient Aliens are right after all.
3. What is one strong memory that has stuck with you from childhood? Why is it so powerful and lasting?
Since I’m still technically in childhood, I don’t have much experience to draw from, but the day I accidentally became the Knopic, or avatar, for Horus on earth would have to be it.
4. You’re getting ready for a night out. Where are you going? What do you wear? Who will you be with?
A night out usually means going to the mall with either my best friend Galen or my girlfriend Rose to hit the comic store or to see a movie. I’d probably wear my favorite Supernatural or Walking Dead T-Shirt. Depending on who’s trying to take over the world, I might go out as Horus in full golden armor.
5. Where do you go when you’re angry? What do you do there?
I try not to do angry, but when I get upset I usually go to my Aunt Jenifer’s bookstore. There’s nothing better than losing yourself in a good book.
6. Have you been in love? Had a broken heart? Who was it and what happened.
I think I have been, or am rather. I’d been crushing on Rose Tennant since like the eighth grade. Right after the whole becoming Horus thing, I found out she had sort of liked me too. We’ve been more or less dating ever since. We still are, even though my wife, uh, I mean Horus’ real life wife showed up and is the foreign exchange student my parents are hosting. Now, things are kind of complicated around the Hughes’ homestead.
7. What is your biggest fear? Who have you told this to? Who would you never tell this to? Why?
My biggest fear is that I won’t be able to be the hero the world and my family needs to keep them safe. Sooner or later something is going to come along that will take more than the power of Horus to beat it and I won’t have enough of that something.
Thankfully, I have Hattie, Horus’ wife to confide in. I just hope my family doesn’t find out about my secret identity. Grounding would be the least of my worries. My mom would probably kill me three different ways before bringing me back to tell me I couldn’t leave my room until I was forty.
8. If you had to make a meal for me right now with only the ingredients in your refrigerator and pantry, what would you make me?
Fruity Peebles and Pop Tarts? Not really sure what’s in there. Mom frowns on extensive fridge door opening.
9. Look down. Describe what you’re wearing. Is this the way you’re normally dressed? If not, what do you normally wear?
Well, I’m wearing a Doctor Who T-shirt that says Mad Man with a Box, Tenth Doctor not the Matt Smith version. I’ve got on a pair of khaki shorts and my favorite pair of Nikes, which my mom says needs to find the nearest trash can. When not dressed in my school uniform or if I’m not wearing Horus’ body as my own, this is basically my normal outfit.
10. What’s the one thing you want out of life that you don’t think you can have? Why can’t you have it?
I think there’s nothing in life you can’t have if you work hard to gain your dreams.
