**Author Peek** Interview with Daryl Devoré

**Author Peek** Interview with Daryl Devoré

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a fulltime writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share.

Thanks for letting me visit. I live in Ontario Canada with husband and pets. I write. I left the real world and now I write.  When I’m not at my laptop, I love to garden. I have a good size vegetable garden where I fight it out with the local wildlife population. Did you know chipmunks love corn on the cob! So do bears – but we won’t go there!  My front yard is flowers. A young couple pulled into our driveway last summer. They got out of their car and said, “We’re lost and we decided anyone who has a yard this beautiful must be safe to talk to.”  We invited them to stay for dinner.  I grew up in the city but have lived out here in the country for 23 yrs and I love it- except there is no pizza delivery!

1. How did you get started writing? When someone handed me a pencil.

2. What genre(s) do you write in and why? Erotic romance – contemporary, historical and currently working on a fantasy.  Why? I have no idea why?  Writing erotic was not where I ever planned to go. It is just where I ended up.

3. What is your favorite part of writing?

Letting the characters take me where they want to go. I’m a panster. I may have an idea of where the story is headed – but it never seems to get there. One critique partner said what she liked about my stories were the changes of direction.  It’s not me that’s doing it – talk to my characters.

4. What is your least favorite part of writing?

Everybody who has read an interview of me can answer this – critiques.  It is my biggest –arrghhhhhh.  I am slowly beginning to understand it is because of my pride. I was taught to be a “good girl” and do your best. I’m smart and always did well in school – few mistakes. I took pride in handing in the best thing I could. I wrote a book, put it through critique group, self-edited it to where I thought it was good. I was proud.  Then to have it be sent back from publisher with hundreds of edits in it – it knocked me on my butt.  I quit. I wrote the publisher and quit. I couldn’t believe I was that much of a failure Luckily he told me to “suck it up” and now A Kept Woman is published. To this day, when I get a critique or an edit, it takes me a while to open it and I have to control the fear that bubbles up inside me.

5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

The hot tub.  Something somebody said. A line pops into my head. I’m quiet, your basic wall flower. But what I’m doing is watching people. How do they interact? How do they stand, hold a drink, laugh. And from what I see or hear an ideas bubbles around in the back of my head until it is ready and then it pops forward and say, “Tada!!”

Sexy Red Hood is a twisted fairy tale.  The general idea came from my publisher. They wanted to do a promotional thing and asked each author to pick a fairy tale. I chose Little Red Riding Hood and then twisted it – just a bit.

6. What is it that makes your writing different from all the others in your genre?

My voice. That is the only thing I can claim.  I’ve read several books and hundreds of chapters by other  romance and erotic romance authors and I am humbled and envious of what they have written.

7. Are you an avid reader?  When you do read someone else’s writing, what is your favorite genre?

Let’s say I used to be an avid reader – now I’m an avid critiquer and beta.  But when I do have to get away from it all and read “something else” – it’s a murder mystery. I love to cuddle up next to my wood stove with a big hot chocolate and an Agatha Christie.  I own all of her books. They are like dear friends.

8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

Capri’s Fate is my erotic fantasy that is currently being written. It is about a junior vice president who falls in love with a hot male voice. When is it going to be published – first I have to finish it. Then I’ll worry about the next part.

  1. Congrats on your book release! It was fun reading about you and your writing journey. I live in the country too and I have to say I do miss picking up that pohone and ordering pizza to be delivered, but that’s the only thing I miss. I grew up in the country and I’m glad to be back!

    Good luck with your book!

  2. More country folk after my own heart! Except I have pizza delivery! Hehehe It’s so much fun learning more about the writer’s I’ve met online. Fun interview and I bet your lost drivers were given first-hand knowledge of true hospitality. Way to go!

I LOVE this interview. What a down to earth artist – hey, would love to see that garden, do you have pictures?? LOL. Daryl you are delightful. My publisher is from Canada and last year hosted a global booksigning with 23 authors in Montreal. I met so many wonderful people, not only other writers but editors from our publishing house as well. They remain to be my close friends and that Canadian charm you exhibit is one I have had the pleasure of embracing in person.

  4. Wonderful interview,! So nice to get to know you better, Daryl! Love the book!
