The Secret Life of Miss Anna Marsh

**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with ELLA QUINN

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a full time writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share.

I’ve lived all over the world, from Guam to Europe and had many lives. When I’m not writing, I love to paddle board, walk the beach near my house, read, and sail. I also love good food, but I’m not at all flexible when it comes to breakfast. It’s pretty easy to get plain yogurt and fruit, but I carry my cinnamon seasoned muesli, tea, and a large cup around with me when I travel.

1. How did you get started writing?

I’d wanted to write something, but had no idea what. I’d never written fiction, and until I read an interview with an author (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten) saying write what you read, it never occurred to me to try. Within a week I had an image of an angry Regency lady pacing her room. I sat down and wrote the paragraph. A month later I had 100,000 words. That book was my debut novel, The Seduction of Lady Phoebe.

2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?

I write Regencies. They are the stories that come to me. Who knows why.

3. What is your favorite part of writing?

Getting to know the characters. Sometimes it takes a while before they really talk to me. In my 4th book, Desiring Lady Caro, it was like pulling teeth. I think I was on my 4th draft before I had Caro’s POV in the first 5 chapters.

4. What is your least favorite part of writing?

Waiting for my characters to talk to me.

5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

I can’t tell you. They just come to me. Usually I have a character who wants his or her story told, and they don’t always come in order.

6. What is it that makes your writing different from all the others in your genre?

That’s a question I had no good answer to until the lovely Grace Burrowes nailed it for me. I write traditional Regencies, with sex.

7. Are you an avid reader?

I am. If I’m not writing, editing or marketing, I’m reading.

When you do read someone else’s writing, what is your favorite genre?

Historical Romance.

8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

The next book is The Temptation of Lady Serena. It’s release is January 2d. This is the 4th book in The Marriage Game, and is the story of a woman who has lived an isolated life in the Scottish Boarders and the rake who decides he’ll do anything to marry her.

  2. Ann Everett says:

I admire authors of historical novels…romance or otherwise. So much research is required to get the descriptions and settings accurate. This series sounds very interesting. I’ll check it out on Amazon.

  17. Ella Quinn says:

Hi Sandra. Thanks for stopping by.

  18. Christine L. says:

You’re quite the water-baby! If you haven’t already set one of your novels near the sea, would you consider doing so? The ocean evokes such a primal reaction in many of us that it could be as important a presence to a story as a main character.

  19. Ella Quinn says:

Actually, Christine, I set the 5th book here in the Virgin Islands. It will release next summer.
