**Author Peek** Interview with Geri Foster

**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with Author, GERI FOSTER

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a fulltime writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share.

First, I’m lucky enough to be a full-time writer since retiring in January. It’s been a whirlwind since then. I was the Secretary of a small municipality. It was fun, but grueling and tough to do my job and write at the same time. Glad that nightmare is behind me.

1. How did you get started writing?

Like most, first I was a reader, one who read constantly. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been accused of keeping my nose in a book. Then one day, I thought, I wonder if I could do this? So, after joining RWA, two chapters, taking every class out there and getting a bucket load of rejections, I finally self-pub in April.  Ironically, two days after my books were up, I was contacted by one of those houses that didn’t want me earlier. I said, no thanks. 🙂

2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?

I write Romantic Suspense because I love the genre. For some reason action, bombs, and rough guys come to me naturally. I write a better fight scene than a love scene. But, I’m getting better. I’m also playing with an Erotic Romance and a Paranormal.

3. What is your favorite part of writing?

Slamming it down on the first draft. That gets my creative juices flowing and God only knows where I’ll end up. I never plot a big book. Novellas, yes.

4. What is your least favorite part of writing?

Editing, editing, and more editing. Oh, did I mention editing? Yeah, that bad.

5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

I start out every book with the inciting incident. Those first five pages begin the story and when I sit down, that’s all I know.

6. What is your typical day like?

I have my morning coffee. I do nothing until I’ve done that. Then I answer emails, check Facebook and Twitter, then I open my manuscript and read what I wrote the day before. Around 1:00 I stop for lunch then at 3:00 I go to the gym for an hour. Back home I write until 7:00 then have dinner. Back to the computer until about 10:00. I’m bouncing around between my WIP, emails, and Facebook.

7. What is most difficult for you to write?  Characters, conflict or emotions? Why?

The most difficult part for me to write is when I go back and layer in the clothes, the weather, the time of day, and the setting.

8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

My next book is Out of the Night. It comes out September 15th and I’m having a launch party that day with lots of giveaways on Facebook! Come join us.

To tell you about one book I sort of have to let you know that I’ve written three books in the Falcon Series. All the books are connected, but they completely stand along books. You can read them in any order. Out of the Night is about Tony Archuletta, who is a Falcon Agent being held prisoner by the Russians. Abby Williams, an Investigative Reporter goes in to rescue him.
