**Author Peek** Interview with Jannine Gallant

Every Step She Takes
**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a full-time writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share to introduce yourself.

Thanks for having me! I live at Beautiful Lake Tahoe in California. I’d love to say I pay the mortgage writing…maybe someday. LOL Until then, I work part time for the local Parks and Recreation Department, hanging out at the boat ramp all summer, writing between boats. I’m an outdoors woman. I love to hike in the woods with my dog.

1. How did you get started writing?

I actually started writing my first book the summer after I graduated from high school. I think I still have it in a notebook somewhere…where it deserves to stay! LOL I did major in creative writing in college, but I didn’t get fully motivated to pursue writing as a career until both my daughter were in school and I had time to devote to my craft.

2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?

Currently I write mostly romantic suspense. It’s the genre I enjoy reading and writing most because it keeps me on my toes and excited to find out what happens next. I’ve also written novella length contemporary stories and two historical novels. I adore history and love the research involved, and I may go back to that genre in the future.

3. What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?

Plot holes. Of course I can’t write down the fixes I come up with… Kind of like waking up in the middle of the night with a brilliant idea you forget by morning!

4. What is your favorite part of writing?

Editing. I enjoy smoothing out my dialogue and filling those plot holes to make my writing the best it can be.

5. What is your least favorite part of writing?

Editing. LOL When my editor tells me my writing isn’t so awesome, I’m not as thrilled as when I’m telling myself that! But every bit of input does make my writing stronger.

6. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

My stories usually come to me when I’m walking my dog in the woods where I do all my best thinking. Often they’re born of what ifs. What if this happened? Then what? A story slowly emerges from the questions.

7. Tell me about your ideal reader.

My ideal reader is someone who likes fast action and characters grounded in reality. I don’t do billionaires. I love readers who can relate to small towns and appreciate adventures as much as I do!

8. What is your “go to” routine that helps you get in the mood to write? Special beverage? Music? Etc.

I need silence! Unfortunately, I don’t focus well with a lot of background noise. To get into the flow of my story, I edit what I wrote the day before and then keep going. I find it helps with continuity, with the perk benefit of less editing time later on!

9. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

Every Step She Takes, the second Book in my Who’s Watching Now series releases tomorrow! This is a fast paced romantic suspense story set in the wilds of Alaska and in San Francisco. I hope you’ll join Grace and Travis on their action-packed adventure!

Thanks for sharing a different part of yourself , as well as the giveaway!

  2. Karen Docter says:

Good morning, Jannine, and welcome to Karen’s Killer Book Bench! Like you, I kind of like editing. By the time I get to the end of a book, there isn’t much left for me to do. I’m a compulsive editor so it’s pretty polished by the time I get to the editing phase.
