**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with KIM CRESSWELL

Editorial Note to my Readers:  I’ve decided to shake up the interview questions a bit for 2014 so you, my reader, can get to know the highlighted author a bit more beyond their genre and book release dates. I’m not even going to run the same questions each week.  I hope you have fun reading the author’s answers!

INTRODUCING….KIM CRESSWELL

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a full-time writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share to introduce yourself.

Thanks so much for having me on you blog, Karen.  I’m thrilled to be here! I’m a full-time writer from London (known as the Forest City), Ontario Canada. I have two grown children and two incredible grandsons. When I’m not busy with family and writing, I’m a gamer chick! A gaming junkie. Have been since the ’80s. I’m a die-hard PC gamer and known to play first-person shooters (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3), adventure, fantasy and  RPG’s (Role Playing Games).

1.  How did you get started writing?

I’ve always written since I was in grade school, mainly short stories. The first full length novel I wrote was called, Bright Big City.  I was in my mid-twenties and thought the book was great! Fast forward a few decades and boy was I wrong. The story was horrible to the point I threw it out. Then when I developed Fibromyalgia in 2001, I returned to writing and it’s been the best therapy for me in dealing with chronic pain.

2.  What genre(s) do you write in and why?

I mainly write thrillers (Lethal Journey & Reflection) because it’s a genre I enjoy reading.  Who doesn’t like a good thriller, a cat and mouse chase to the death? Recently, I entered the true crime writing arena. My latest story about accused Canadian killer, Cody Legebokoff is published in Serial Killer Quarterly, a new e-magazine published by Grinning Man Press. In January, I also published two true crime short stories, Real Life Evil – A True Crime Quickie (Book One).

3.  What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?

I don’t drive anymore due to medical issues but if I did, I know I would be plotting out a new thriller in my head. <evil grin>

4.  What is your favorite part of writing?

My favorite—when I’ve written the words, “The End”.

5.  What is your least favorite part of writing?

The least favorite and most challenging aspect of writing for me is finishing the first draft. My internal editor will not shut off which makes me the slowest writer on earth but saves time when it comes to editing. In the end, it all probably balances out.

6.  How much of yourself is hidden in the characters in your book?

Quite a lot—especially in Lauren Taylor, the heroine from LETHAL JOURNEY my latest thriller releaseShe has my drive and strength incorporated into her character and a few more character traits.

7.  Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

Inspiration comes from many different places such as movies, conversations and experiences to name a few. Occasionally, an idea smacks me in the side of the head. Such is the case with another book I’m working on for 2015, a supernatural thriller. The idea came from a terrifying dream—the perfect scenario for the story’s villain, a serial killer. I watch the news, read the paper, and search the Internet for interesting stories that make me ask, “What if?”

8.  Tell me about your ideal reader.

My ideal reader would be someone who enjoys edge-of-the-seat suspense, loads of action, and hot romance because I’m a cinematic writer. I write as if I’m watching a movie and I hope readers enjoy the show. I highly recommend having some popcorn on hand.  🙂

9.  What is your “go to” routine that helps you get in the mood to write? Special beverage? Music? Etc.

Yes! I need coffee…lots of it. I also have to music playing. For LETHAL JOURNEY, I listened to; Barry White, Bon Jovi, David Bowie, Eagles, Guns N Roses and Eminem.

10.  Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

My next book is Retribution (A Whitney Steel Novel) and will release this summer or fall. The novel is the much-anticipated sequel to my award-winning debut romantic thriller, REFLECTION. Here is the blurb:

THE WAR HAS JUST BEGUN…

Once the leader of the Sur del Calle cartel, Colombia’s largest drug trafficking organization, Pablo Sanchez patiently waits to exact his revenge against Blake Barnett, the FBI agent who killed his twin brother over a decade ago.

After one failed attempt forces Sanchez to flee the United States, he hatches a bold new plan. This time Blake has something to lose: his fiancée, Whitney Steel.

From the neon paradise of Las Vegas to the militant-infected jungles of Bogota, Blake must risk his life and infiltrate the cartel’s inner world and eliminate the ruthless drug lord. The price of failure is higher than ever as he’s forced to use the woman he loves as a pawn in a deadly game—where the events of the past and present collide.
