**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with Author, LANA WILLIAMS
Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a fulltime writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share.
Karen, thank you so much for having me here today! I was born and raised in the Midwest on a dairy farm, am the youngest of six kids, and moved to the Rockies after college where I continue to live with my husband, two sons, and two dogs. My favorite hobbies are reading, baking, camping and although I also enjoy quilting and sewing, I haven’t had much time for that lately. 🙂
1. How did you get started writing?
I’ve always loved to read and after awhile, the ideas in my head formed into real stories that demanded to be written down. Finding a writing group in my city was a huge boon. What a relief to learn that other people had crazy ideas floating around in their heads too. LOL. I’ve made amazing friends from that group who provide support, feedback, and most important, friendship.
2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?
I write historical romance with a pinch of paranormal to stir things up. I’ve just released the third book, Believe In Me, in my medieval romance series, The Vengeance Trilogy. I love medieval stuff, from the knights and their chivalry (or lack thereof) to the ladies and their strength to swords and jousting and horses. I find that period fascinating. While I enjoy reading other genres, historical romance provides a lovely escape from day-to-day life, and I find that holds true with writing it as well.
3. What is your favorite part of writing?
I love brainstorming to figure out what makes a character do the things they do. Actual writing is also a joy, at least most days. 🙂 It is always a challenge, but there are days when you know it’s going well and there’s no better feeling in the world!
4. What is your least favorite part of writing?
That would have to be the synopsis. I always write one to make sure my plot and character arcs are solid and then run it by my critique partners. I know my book will be stronger for it in the end, but it’s difficult to whittle the entire story down to a few pages. And a bit painful as well!
5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?
Everywhere! It might be a news piece I see on morning TV or some research I come across or even a conversation. Those types of things seem to plant a seed that grows in my mind until I’m ready to write.
6. What is it that makes your writing different from all the others in your genre?
I tend to focus more on the romance than the history, so my stories are not recounts of historical events. Instead, I concentrate on the characters and what their lives might have been like on a daily basis. And of course, I tend to add a pinch of paranormal, whether it’s a knight with second sight or a lady with the ability to heal.
7. Are you an avid reader? When you do read someone else’s writing, what is your favorite genre?
I love to read! While I read many genres, historical romance remains my favorite! Nothing like slipping into a previous era to learn something new and escape from reality for a time!
8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?
I’ve just released Believe In Me, Book III of The Vengeance Trilogy! It’s about a knight determined to honor his vow, and a lady set on vengeance. Needless to say, the two collide! My next series will be set in Victorian London and the first one will be released in December of 2013.
