**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with

MARIA ELENA ALONSO-SIERRA

 ~~

INTRODUCING…Maria Elena Alonso-Sierra.

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a fulltime writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share to introduce yourself.

I am Cuban-born, married, and an empty nester. My home is in North Carolina, and I love to cook and to walk the beautiful wooded areas of the state. I also teach middle school language arts and literature, which keeps me busy and entertained. But my favorite hobby is to read, read, read, and research, especially anything that is medieval.

1. What genre(s) do you write in and why?

Romantic suspense. I have always been into murder and mayhem with a good splash of romance. I love bringing two strong characters together who need to help each other in order to stay alive.

2. What’s your favorite beverage?

Coffee, coffee, coffee….

3. If you had to listen to one song over and over again for a whole day, what would it be?

Caribbean Blue by Enya.

4. What is your least favorite part of writing?

The proofreading. God, I hate proofreading.

5. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I would love to live in the French Riviera again. It is an incredibly beautiful place, full of history, surrounded by the maritime pre-Alps, and the Mediterranean.

6. Are you an avid reader? When you do read someone else’s writing, what is your favorite genre?

Yes. I tend to gravitate toward the genre in which I write, but I also truly enjoy historical fiction.

7. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

Anywhere. For my first novel, The Coin, I got the idea from a hike into the mountains in France, when I was living there. For the third one, still untitled, I got the idea while doing something in social media in another place I lived in, New York City.

8. Tell me about your ideal reader.

One who is enthusiastic about living your fictive dream. A reader who appreciates fleshed-out characters, plot lines, and visualizes your scenes. A reader who loves language.

9. If you were to choose one superpower, what would it be?

Speed, like Flash or Superman. Would love to be able to do all that I want, and need to do, within a 24-hour period.

10. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

My next novel is a murder mystery set in New York City. The main character, Nick Larson, is a detective who has to catch a killer who likes to hang his victims. Eventually, his love interest will be threatened and the real chase is on.
