**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with Author, MICHELE CALLAHAN

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a fulltime writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share.

I’m really normal.  LOL.  I’m a wife, a mom, a coffee addict, I have a black lab and a full time job.  I hate to cook, I love the smell of fresh laundry, and I have terrible summer allergies.  I love romance movies and books.  I drive my husband crazy watching all the “cheesy” (his word) made-for-TV love stories on cable.  But I’ll take sappy love stories over blood and guts any day of the week…unless we’re talking outer space or Middle Earth.  I’m a nerd.  100% Pure.  Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Gallactica (old and new, and – for the record – the OLD Starbucks was better), Avatar, Lord of the Rings, etc…  I guess, in that regard, I don’t make a bit of sense.  Love and Orcs?  Is that not normal?  Go figure.  *shrug*

1. How did you get started writing?

My mom read to me…a lot.   I loved it all – from Cinderella to Frog & Toad.  Any story, any time!  I read constantly as a kid and started working on my first “novel” when I was eleven.

2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?

I write romance with either paranormal or sci-fi twists (or often – paranormal with a scientific explanation). I think it’s because I’ve always been enthralled with two things: people and possibilities.  I have a science background with a lot of chemistry, biology, physics, and teachers that made me look into the way the world works on a much deeper level.  Most people walk around looking at the surface.  Science makes you ask tough questions and ponder more than one answer.  Combine that with a strong spiritual life and it’s a fascinating head trip.

Romance stories take people from all walks of life with every background imaginable.  Anything is possible and everyone gets a happily-ever-after.  At heart, I’m a total optimist.  I believe in a basic and fundamental goodness in humanity, and romance spotlights that in a way no other genre does.  No one is unworthy of love or redemption in a romance novel.  No one.  I love that.

3. What is your favorite part of writing?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE brainstorming.  The crazier, the better.  I could think up wild ideas for hours.

4. What is your least favorite part of writing?

Commas, Colons, and Semi-Colons.  Grammar and tenses stress me out.  🙂

5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

Usually I dream them.  I know, that sounds odd, but it’s true.  I dream the kernel of an idea (usually a scene or two), write it down (I keep a notebook and pen by my bed at ALL times), brainstorm for a while, and pretty soon it’s a whole story.

6. What is your typical day like?

I have three kids and an insane schedule.  I run RomCon and help my husband operate his businesses.  So, I had to carve out writing time.  Tuesday and Thursdays are what I call “Just Write” – I hang a “closed” sign on my office door and don’t answer my phone.  It’s the ONLY way I get any time for myself.

7. What is most difficult for you to write?  Characters, conflict or emotions? Why?

It’s difficult for me to wrap my head around my hero’s point of view sometimes.  It can take me weeks to finally get into his head and figure out what’s going on.  When that happens I end up doing a lot of re-writing, because I usually got him wrong the first time.  But, those hunky heroes are always worth the wait.  😉

8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

I am working on wrapping up my Timewalker series.  It’s exciting and I’m biting my fingernails.  The first two books are out now.  Red Night and Silver Storm are fast, fun, exciting reads.  But the next one, Blue Abyss, is twice as long, and a complex, fascinating book.  Everything has been jumping out at me.  The bad guys shocked me (who they are and why they are here on Earth), the war, the time loops, the love triangles.  The whole thing has blown my mind.  I can’t wait for everyone to read it.  It’s killing me to wait until I have all three done to publish them, but I don’t want anyone to have to wait to find out what happens next.  This series, for me, is unlike anything I’ve ever hear of.  Hot love stories, time travelers with unusual powers, meddling Immortals, modern times with clueless normal people like you and me, and bad guys that give me nightmares.  No wonder these guys keep me up at night.  J  I hope they steal some sleep from all of you, too.

Red Night

Timewalker Chronicles Book 1 – RED NIGHT

Duty…
Alexa wants no part of her family’s ancient bargain with the Archiver, nor does she want the ‘gift’ that makes her something more than human. But should she refuse the call for help, six billion people will die from a horrible bio-agent known as the Red Death. Sent back through time to prevent the global disaster, she has three days to track down the man responsible and eliminate the threat.

Destiny…
Alexa begins her hunt, but once she meets Luke, her desire to kiss him becomes stronger than the cold logic demanding she kill him. The viral cultures are missing, Luke’s superiors are keeping deadly secrets, and the clock is ticking. Humanity’s very survival depends on them discovering the true enemy before it’s too late. Secrecy. Sedition. Seduction. They are playing a deadly game…and they can’t afford to lose.

Silver Storm

Timewalker Chronicles Book 2 – SILVER STORM

Lost…
On a hot summer night twenty-five years ago a freak lightning bolt struck Sarah St. Pierre on Lake Michigan. Presumed dead, her body was never found. She simply…vanished.

Hunted…
Timothy Daniel Tucker retired, but the group of people he once worked for aren’t willing to give him up so easily. They watch him, waiting for him to crack, waiting for an excuse to bring him back in to finish what he started. When Tim finds a beautiful naked woman floating in Hendrick’s Lake, he suspects a trap. She claims to be the same woman who disappeared over two decades ago, but she hasn’t aged a day. Worse, she knows intimate details about his covert work on a weapon that could destroy all of humanity. Trust is impossible, but Tim will not stop until he discovers all of her secrets, until he uncovers the truth.

Tracked by an unseen enemy, Sarah claims to see things no one else can see, to know things about the future that no one could possibly know. And she has a frightening power no human should wield. Falling in love is an unacceptable risk but Tim can’t walk away from her visions, her power, or the fierce desire she ignites within him. Predator or prey? Truth or lies? Love or duty? Decisions must be made. Millions of lives hang in the balance……and the clock is ticking.

  1. Mari Collier says:

Of course, there should be romance in a science fiction if people or any beings are there. They have desires and wants. They may just believe they approach things differently. Good interview. Good luck with everything. I don’t know how you find time for it all.

  2. toni says:

I agree, she is definitely wonder woman. 🙂 I love your writing process.
