**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with Author, Mina Khan
Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a fulltime writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share.
Thanks for having me over Karen! I’m originally from Bangladesh, but now live in Texas. You’ll often finds hints of both seeping into my writing.
I’m very fortunate to be a fulltime writer. My day job involves writing a weekly food column for the San Angelo Standard-Times. When I have met that deadline, I write genie stories that whisk you off to exotic adventures.
I love to read, cook, garden and travel. Oh, and I also indulge in renaissance dancing.
1. How did you get started writing?
I was a book worm as a child and I started writing very early. My first publication – a poem—occurred in third grade.
2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?
I write paranormal romances with genies and multicultural literary fiction, and food. Actually, I love writing and just write whatever story or idea happens to tickle my imagination.
3. What is your favorite part of writing?
Going to fun adventures with interesting chacracters.
4. What is your least favorite part of writing?
Trying to write down the vivid chaos of my imagination as a coherent and complete story.
5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories? Life.
6. What is it that makes your writing different from all the others in your genre?
My genies are based on the djinn stories I grew up with. So less Hollywood, and more Asian-Eastern influence. They don’t live in bottles (unless imprisoned in one), but have their own thriving society parallel to the human dimension.
7. Are you an avid reader? When you do read someone else’s writing, what is your favorite genre?
Oh I love to read! My favorite genres would paranormal and fantasy.
8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?
My next story, coming out in late April (not too far…SQUEE!), is THE DJINN IN THE MIRROR. It’s based on the question: What if Cinderella had to deal with a wicked sexy djinn instead of a fairy godmother?
