**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with Author, NIKKI LYNN BARRETT

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a fulltime writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share.

I’m a stay at home mom and wife. My four year old goes to preschool in the mornings, so that gives me my quiet time :).  I was born in El Paso, Texas, but have lived in various places, including Germany and Massachusetts, and now I’m in Arizona. I run a book review blog some of you may have heard of- Storm Goddess Book Reviews & More.  I run an online used bookstore at www.nikkisbookshelf.com. I’m a lover of music and singing. I’m an avid weather fanatic and am often times taking storm pictures when we have one nearby.  I absolutely hate public speeches but will get up in front of a large crowd and sing my heart out.

1. How did you get started writing?

Writing has always been a part of me since I can remember! My first completed ‘book’ was in fifth grade. I used to write in those one subject notebooks. The finished book was a 40 page notebook where the story was written front and back. It was supposed to be the first in a series based upon me and my friends in the neighborhood we lived in.  I wrote a lot of poetry back then, too, and in middle school also started writing song lyrics.

2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?

I’m a little bit of everything, honestly. My ideas vary in the romance field and many of it’s subgenres, but I also have thriller and even some horror ideas.  Wherever my muse takes me, I go. I’m published in contemporary and contemporary with suspense elements right now.

3. What is your favorite part of writing?

Creating the story and getting to know my characters! Many times, I am surprised by how they turn out. I’m a panster, so I’m always learning things about the characters and how their story will go. I love that part of the process.

4. What is your least favorite part of writing?

Editing, lol. It has to happen though!

5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

EVERYWHERE!!! I mean, really! I might see a story that sparks an idea, or a scene idea that fleshes out into a full fledged story. A conversation with someone, a picture, a song….the ideas just pop in my mind.

6. What is it that makes your writing different from all the others in your genre?

Oh, wow. You stopped me in my tracks with this one, lol. Umm….  I don’t just write about the romance, I put in a lot of trials and tribulations in all sorts of relationships in the stories, I connect a lot of plots together and while I’ve been told my stories are feel good reads, they have a lot of realism in them, too.

7. Are you an avid reader?  When you do read someone else’s writing, what is your favorite genre?

Umm….YES! I can’t go a day without reading.  And as a book blogger/ reviewer, I’m reading a wide variety of things. I’m pretty eclectic. Whatever grabs me, I’ll read. One of the things I love most about reviewing is that I’ve opened the door to a wide variety of books I may never have come across before.  Of course, my favorite genre is romance, but I’m not limited to just romance.

8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

My next book (My FOURTH! OMG!) will be out in November. It’s called on the 12th Date of Christmas. I’m in revisions/edits right now with it. This book is I guess what we’d call the follow up to The Secret Santa Wishing Well. Readers have been asking for more of those characters. This is Robin’s story. Robin is a major secondary character in The Secret Santa Wishing Well. I never thought I’d continue with those characters, but the response to that book and wanting more of them was pretty big, so I delivered 🙂 Or, I will deliver once it’s available to everyone!
