**Author Peek** Interview with RM Alexander
THE REAL YOU, Only You Book #1

INTRODUCING…RM.

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a full-time writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share to introduce yourself.

I grew up in the Midwest, kind of circling Lake Michigan. I’m originally from a little town (well, not so little anymore, but it was then) in Northern Illinois called McHenry. From there, I moved to Burlington, Wisconsin, back to McHenry and then to Michigan. During the day, I’m a stay-at-home mom who homeschools two kiddos. At night is when I do most of my writing.

I don’t have very many hobbies anymore-mom-ing and writing takes most of my time. But when I can, I enjoy scrapbooking, watching movies, going out with family. Aside from family and writing, traveling is my other passion, especially going to Walt Disney World. I’d live there if I could.

I’m a Ghiradelli addict (dark chocolate and caramel-YUM), drink a gallon of orange juice a week, and watch Pride and Prejudice (Kiera Knightley version) at least once a month. Oh! And did I mention I am a Disney nut?

1. What appeals to you about the genre that you write?

I love romantic suspense because while there’s a budding relationship between two characters, you’ve also got this danger lurking. To me, it’s that danger that keeps a reader turning the pages as they try to put the pieces together. The characters could live, they could die, they could find their happily ever after, or not. In romantic suspense, you just really don’t know what’s going to happen.

2. Are you a plotter or a pantser (one who writes “by the seat of your pants”)?

I’m somewhere in between. Before I start any novel, I sit down with a blank notebook and go through each character-who they are, what they like and don’t like, why their role in the story is important. Then I go through each chapter and decide where major parts of the plot need to go, that way I know by this chapter, I need to be able to get to this part of the story. After that, I allow the story to connect the dots. Sometimes, what I think is going to happen in Chapter Three or Ten might completely change by the time I get there. (More often than not, actually).

3. What is your favorite part of writing?

It used to be the first draft because I never wanted to change anything. But now, honestly, I love revising because that’s where all the polishing gets done. The first draft is giving birth, the revising is dressing up what’s there and making it pretty. That’s the fun part.

4. If you had to give up writing and do something else, what would you do instead?

Give up writing???!!! I can’t imagine. I’ve been writing since I was a child, even though it was only a hobby until much later in life. But I can’t imagine giving it up.

5. What’s your favorite meal of the day?

It depends. What’s on the menu? LOL!

6. Which are your favorite characters to write, the female characters or the male characters? Why?

It really depends on the story. Mostly, though, the female characters are easier to write because, I mean, as a woman, can I REALLY understand what goes on inside a man’s head? LOL!

7. If you had a superpower, what would it be, and how would you use it?

I’d fly so I could take my family to Disney World anytime we (read I) wanted. LOL! Honestly, I don’t know. Some kind of super power to quiet the tension in our country. The division really breaks my heart, makes me worry for my children’s future.

8.  Many writers dream of having the ideal location to write. If you could live anywhere in the world or live a particular lifestyle, where would you be answering these questions right now?

Near the water-maybe a nice hotel balcony overlooking the ocean. Water is so soothing to me.

9.  Do you have any rejection stories to share? Reviews that meant something special to you?

All reader feedback is special to me. When they love the story, are passionate about the characters, or are touched by the situations the characters find themselves in, that’s what every author dreams of. I’m no different. But I’ve also learned from reviews, they’ve helped define who I am as an author. I treasure all feedback.

10.  Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

The next book is Until Tomorrow. It is another romantic suspense with some action thrown in for good measure about a man who is placed in the Witness Protection Program and is faced with forgetting the love of his life. I don’t have a release date yet, but my hope is for a late October, early November release.

Good morning, RM, and welcome to Karen’s Killer Book Bench. Have to agree with you about what appeals about writing suspense. Although I do love writing pure contemporary romance, I tend to tuck my suspense leanings into every story I write. I simply have to tear out the suspense in my contemporaries. LOL Thanks for stopping by to share with us today!

  3. What a fun interview and introduction, Karen and RM! Thanks so much! Looking forward to reading this. 🙂
