**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with T. STRANGE

INTRODUCING…T. Strange.

Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a full-time writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share to introduce yourself.

Hi! I’m T. and I’m Canadian. That sounds like a confession or something…anyway, I’m originally from British Columbia, but now I live in a little house on the prairies. My house is purple (which is my favourite colour) and black so it looks more than a little witchy! Which suits my wife and I just fine, as we’re more than a little witchy. We have lots of animals—guinea pigs, rats, salamanders, cats, finches, a snake, and a horse.

1. How did you get started writing?

I didn’t want to learn to read or write. I tend to pick up most skills quite quickly, and I get frustrated by ones that take longer to learn…but as soon as I could write, I was unstoppable! My best friend and I spent many, many hours writing stories about ourselves as unicorns.

2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?

I write M/M romance, both BDSM and vanilla. My first two published works were both BDSM. I’ve been into BDSM literally as long as I can remember (the above friend and I were unwittingly into ponyplay!) and I consider kink a large part of who I am and of my relationship with my wife, so it’s natural that it would be something I write about. As for why M/M…it’s the first fanfiction I started reading, which carried into the fanfiction I wrote. It’s what works for me and what I find most natural to write.

3. What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?

I don’t have a car…but I do have a horse! When I’m on my horse, I mostly think, “OMG I’m on my own horse!!!!

4. What is your favorite part of writing?

The first initial burst, when I’ve just had an idea for a story and the words just don’t stop coming until I’m a panting mess with sore fingers.

5. What is your least favorite part of writing?

Editing. I know it’s good to be your own harshest critic, but I pendulum between “This is the best thing I’ve ever read!!!” and “This is terrible no one should ever read it!” and it’s exhausting.

6. Pick two celebrities to be your parents. Who would they be and why?

Parent #1 is an easy choice: Mark Hadlow. He is seriously the world’s biggest sweetheart. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the Calgary Expo this year, and he’s even sweeter in person than he seemed to be from interviews. Parent #2 I think I’ll go with Graham McTavish, because Mark is already sort of in a relationship with his legs, and Graham seems really nice and snuggly. I haven’t gotten a chance to meet him yet, but I hope to in the future!

7. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

That is a secret so…secret…that not even I know. I’m happy to just sit back and let them arrive.

8. Tell me about your ideal reader.

Ummm…someone who enjoys what I write, the stories I have to tell. Of course I’m not going to say no to being paid to have someone read what I’ve written, but I didn’t start out writing for money, and that’s not the ultimate reward for me. Having someone really ‘get’ a story is so special to me.

9. What is your “go to” routine that helps you get in the mood to write? Special beverage? Music? Etc.

I don’t really have a writing routine—I usually wait until the mood strikes, but I highly recommend OmmWriter. It’s a distraction-free word processor, and it’s so effective that I call it my word vacuum! I have more of a ritual when I’m writing by hand, but that’s only if I have the urge strike when I have my ideal things at hand. I have a special writing notebook and I only write on the right hand page, leaving the left for notes (except when I forget and I just keep writing), and I have a Halloween pencil that I prefer to write with.

10. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

Boy howdy will I! Unless I manage to get my ass in gear and get something else finished, my next book (first novel/print book) will be released April 2015 by Torquere Press. It’s called My Zombie Boyfriend, and it’s an M/M paranormal borderline-urban-fantasy romance that I recently found out is classified as NA (new adult).

It’s about Edward, your typical medical student/necromancer; Kit, the body he found in a park and reanimated; and Boo, Edward’s undead cat and the first zombie he ever raised. At the age of four. And a half.

Everything you want to know about MZB (that I’m willing to disclose this early) can be found here: http://tqstrange.blogspot.ca/p/my-zombie-boyfriend.html

There’s more information about the novel, excerpts, and rubber ducks. Seriously, go check it out. It’s not your traditional ‘grr argh’ zombie novel, but I think zombie fans will love it too.

Fun fact: I used the Halloween pencil from question nine to write at least 70% of MZB.

Welcome to Karen’s Killer Book Bench, T! I’ve wanted a horse all of my life. I bet it’s fun to ride any time you want. Purple is my favorite color, too. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by to share yourself and your book with my readers!

Thanks for having me, and you’re very welcome! I’m happy to be here 🙂

I hope you get a horse one day! Unfortunately, I have to board her out of town and I don’t have a car, so I don’t see her as often as I’d like…but she’s always happy to see me!

There are a lot of purple fans out there, especially among readers/authors, it seems.

Any time! I have a release next spring, so I’m sure I’ll be back around then 🙂

    Interesting zombie cat

  3. Sula says:

Thank I really enjoyed this post and your interview and was interested that you chose two actors from the Hobbit to be your parents 🙂 I wonder if you wrote fanfic about them, as I love following fanfic and reading about relationships that should be.

Sadly I would not be allowed to paint my house purple & black, mainly due to conservation restrictions, but I would love to and then my neighbours would mutter see I told you she was a witch!

I am really intrigued by your Zombie boyfriend book and it might actually be a semi-horror book, with nice touch of romance and humour, that I will read 🙂 On my wish list it goes.

Thank you for a chance to win a copy of Amber, quite a powerful story with regards an artist not been able to see colour any more, something I would feel lost without as well.
