**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with Terri L. Austin
Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a fulltime writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share.
1. How did you get started writing?
I loved to read so much, I thought it might be fun to write my own story. Turns out, it was a blast.
2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?
I write a little bit of everything, but mysteries are fun to create. Who doesn’t love a good who done it? Leading readers down the garden path, trying to fool them with red herrings and misdirections. Good times, I tell you.
3. What is your favorite part of writing?
I love it all. I love first drafts, because I’m a pantser. I like to be surprised by what’s going to happen next. I like the rewrites, too. Crazy, I know. But that’s when I feel I know the characters and can dig in and get my hands dirty.
4. What is your least favorite part of writing?
Hmm. When I write my characters into a corner and haven’t figured out what the next move should be. Those days can get very long.
5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?
Everything is an idea for a story. Maybe not the best story, but everything has potential.
6. What is your typical day like?
I get up, have coffee, see what’s the haps on FB. If I’m behaving myself I exercise. My husband works from home, too, so we meet over coffee, lunch, and dinner.
7. What is most difficult for you to write? Characters, conflict or emotions? Why?
Maybe conflict. I go out of my way to avoid it in real life. But what’s a story without conflict? No story, that’s what.
8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?
The second Rose Strickland Mystery will hopefully be released in December. Huntingford is a hotbed of intrigue.
