**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with Author, TIANA LAVEEN

Before we start talking about her writing, I want to thank Tiana for joining us today and telling us a little about  herself! Welcome, Tiana!

1. How did you get started writing?

It was something that I’ve always done. Since I learned the alphabet, I’ve been writing stories down on paper in my second and third grade class. Then my mother retired her old typewriter to me. The ribbon was faint, but I still pounded out so many stories in my little bedroom after school. That was my sense  of ‘fun’.

2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?

I mainly focus on the following genres: romance: contemporary romance, paranormal romance, erotic romance with a touch of self-help and a load of drama and they are all multicultural. Most of my books are erotic, but not all of them. I write these because I am drawn to the topic of love. I actually wasn’t aware of that until fairly recently. I thought it would be more mystery, etc. – and it is, but I intertwine all of that into one, keeping the love relationship as the main dynamic. I am a sucker for love, a die-hard romantic at heart, so I express that in my books.

3. What is your favorite part of writing?

Being able to write whatever I want, when I want.  I am my own boss, I set my own hours. That is freedom and I am grateful to be in this country, because I know in some countries, I would not be allowed to express my views through this same venue.

4. What is your least favorite part of writing?

Not having enough time or becoming sleepy. I always feel like, I will sleep when I’m dead, but I have too. I have a family to take care of and responsibilities, and that requires me to be alert and work all eight cylinders. I admit I don’t get enough sleep, but many times, my most creative ideas come during times of semi-alertness. Regardless, I hate when I am in the middle of putting down some ideas and I feel the sandman telling me I need to call it a night.

5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

Dreams as of late it seems. I will have a dream, and a piece of it will be enough for me to run with. I also get them from songs and art.

6. What is your typical day like?

Wake up, get cleaned and dressed, check the email, get my son and daughter ready, breakfast in their tummies (I eat whenever I can, lol) Family time, Mommy Time for a hour or two (more email checking, FB, write for a quick second), Family time once the hubby gets home and then when the clock strikes 9 PM I am in writing mode until the sandman and I start fighting again.

7. What is most difficult for you to write?  Characters, conflict or emotions? Why?

Scenes that detail someone’s death, where someone was loved, that is…I wouldn’t say it is the most difficult, I really don’t find anything as far as those three choices necessarily difficult in the traditional sense of that word, but challenging would be more befitting I suppose. So, I’d have go with emotions because for me, the characters are the easy part, and they make their own conflicts if I allow them. It’s the emotions that take the toll on you. I have to pull on my own pain in order to write the scene realistically and that can be taxing. I become the characters I write, when I am in their POV, so it is important that I feel what they feel, when they feel it – it is sort of like being possessed and so when I have to cause them to lose a loved one, it really does hurt since I pull on my own life experiences to make that pain more tangible as I write and detail the scene for the reader.

8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

Due to past ‘early disclosure issues’, I no longer tell what my next project is unless it is about 48 hours away from being published. I have done this before, and lived to regret it for a myriad of reasons but I will say this, it is a softer, romance novel meaning it is not dealing with my typical type of Hero characters. This guy is much different and I think it will surprise people but I have to be able to, as a creative person, express myself in different ways. Yes, I have a ‘style’ of writing, we all do, but I like to also demonstrate that I can do many things and not everything I write has to be exactly the same, or exactly like the last book, and the book before that. In any case, this one is a contemporary romance and it should be published around May 15th, 2013.
