A KILLING MOON
Winged Guardians Book 1
BY ALEXIS D. CRAIG
She’s a wily Raven, former spy and though she’s a bird, she’s smart, cunning, and has yet to confront a problem she can’t run over or shoot her way out of. Skills that as corporate fixer hired to do all manner of things has served Cora Westgate well until she is asked to protect a man from her past, His Royal Highness Finnegan O’Casey, second in line to shifter throne. No problem, except she has to do it without his knowledge. The assignment goes from hard to difficult to impossible.
At least until she becomes reacquainted with Finn. He’s charming, sweet, royalty and worse yet, into her in a way that sings of future promises. He’s exactly what she doesn’t have room for in this assignment or her life.
Finn is a werewolf prince with a problem. Several of them, actually, his brother’s impending coronation being the largest at the moment, followed closely by his father dying and this random sexy Corvid woman dropping into his life and blowing it all to hell. All his problems seem to melt away though when he’s holding the sexy Cora in his arms.
From lovers to allies to unwilling allies and back, this promises to be a wild ride through the palace full of hijinks, familial obstacles, and treason and for this prince and his knight with a shiny Glock.
With a triumphant swoop of his arm, Vasily held out his hand as if presenting her as a debutante. “Finnegan O’Casey, meet Commander Coretta Ashai Westgate, née LeStrange, Royal Guard. On paper, she worked out of Operations and Base Logistics.”
The Strigian nodded smartly. “Yeah, on paper. In reality, the Commander was assigned to the Special Protectorate Division, a specialist in firearms, language acquisition, subterfuge, clandestine operations, and espionage.” On an afterthought, he threw out, “Honorably discharged.” And then the mood in the room blew the hell up.
“I’m sorry, what?” Finn asked.
“You’re a Guard?” Devon exclaimed.
“You’re nobility?” Xander questioned.
“Commander?” Also Devon.
“LeStrange? As in Marius LeStrange, Chief Advisor to the king?” Xander again.
“And what the hell is Special Protectorate Division?” Finn questioned.
“You’re a spy? Are you running an op?” Devon again asked.
Everyone was talking at once again, but at least the guns were all abandoned back in their holsters. Taking advantage of their distraction, she unfolded herself from Finn’s person and closed up the bathrobe with a knot in the sash. Snagging the glass with the most whiskey, she threw it back in one sustained swallow until all the voices died out and she was left with four very interested sets of eyeballs on her.
Rubbing a line between her eyebrows, she focused on releasing the tension that was gathering in her shoulders as she leaned against the arm of the couch farthest from Finn. “Yes, I am the daughter of Marius LeStrange, Marquise of Ravenscroft. No, he does not know I’m here, and that’s by design. I used to be a spy, now I do some freelance work.”
Alexis (Lexie) is a writer with a day job for the last twenty years servicing her community and its everyday heroes.
Born in Tucson her heart still remains there, but she lives, works, and writes in Indy. Her desire to see the whole country is almost complete (seven states left) and as much of the world as she can (7 countries down, 188 to go!
She collects fountain pens, perfume bottles,, rescue animals, and dirty curse words in as many languages as she can. Her list of hobbies is longer than her arms and legs combined (even though she is on the petite side so that isn’t hard) including knitting, crocheting, painting, graphic design, and learning to play the piano.
In addition to ‘writer’, her life has many roles including wife, dog mom, fun aunt, and ghost hunter.
Lexie’s goal is to cram as much living into one life as possible and write about it along the way.
