The Rare and The Unknown Book 4

“Lions need multiple partners during heat and if not multiple partners someone who has the stamina to go for days or weeks,” she reminded her foster parents. “The Pride Proxy provides that service and he has the requisite stamina to go for months with multiple lionesses.”

A knock at the door stopped her saying more. She thanked her unlucky stars. It wasn’t that she was uncomfortable talking about sex, she was just uncomfortable talking about sex with her elderly elephant foster parents. True they had seven biological daughters, but she didn’t want to think of them that way.

Joseph hopped up, answering the door. There was furious whispering, but she tuned it out. She was mentally preparing herself for the five-hour drive back to Atlanta and thanking her unlucky stars that at least she had driven herself. She had not wanted to crowd onto the private jet with the other Herd members while they all flew down together from Atlanta. The last few months, she had needed space from almost everyone and everything even though cats were very social, she had felt the complete opposite.

He came to her side, towering over her chair like he towered over her when she was a kid. “There appears to be about a hundred men downstairs in a ballroom waiting for you to choose who and how many you want.” Smiling, he continued, “The staff here is familiar with cat shifters going into heat. The manager wants to know if you want a lineup of all of them or should they pre-sort them by fur or not fur? Rank? Alphas only? Men or women? Both? Height? Weight? She says any criteria you want they can sort before you arrive,” he rattled off descriptors the manager had given him, counting them on his fingers.

Embarrassment crept up her neck like a cluster of hairy spiders. However, this line-up was almost too good to be true.

Did she really want to drive back to Atlanta tonight? Five hours in a car alone with her own bleak thoughts and raging hormones.

In a word? No.

In the over five hours it would take her to get home and the additional hour on top of that to get to the Pride Proxy’s business, she could have had half a dozen orgasms or more if she found the right man or men.

Of course, the orgasms would be with complete strangers.

On the other hand, they were complete strangers. She would never have to see them again, once she left the island. No embarrassing run ins in the aisle of the grocery store.

And best of all, they would be free. She knew her bank account was looking like empty jeans pockets full of lint and disappointment.

If she took advantage of the crowd downstairs, no long drive home and she could avoid the stop and go of Atlanta rush hour traffic. No need for her to embarrassingly ask Joe and Pheenie to borrow money to pay the Proxy. She wouldn’t have to share the status of her overdrawn checking and depleted savings accounts.

No need to see these men again after her heat was over and the lioness was sated.

Taking a deep breath, she answered, “Men. Single. Fur only. No care for rank.” All signs pointed to her staying here at least for the night. If the strangers didn’t work out, the Pride Proxy would still be available for her use when she returned to Atlanta.
