A Zombie Cosmetologist Novella by

J.D. Blackrose is back with a paranormal/cozy mystery series you’d give your right arm for–or, well, someone else’s. In book one of the Zombie Cosmetologist series, Pluck & Cover, you’ll find Waylon Jenkins–and your newest favorite zombie addiction.

It’s lipstick and lies, murder and mascara, when (unnaturally long-lived) cosmetologist to the stars Waylon Jenkins is dragged into a murder investigation by the local police captain.

Bodies are showing up with limbs missing and Captain Perkins thinks the zombie is the killer because “who else needs the spare parts?” Waylon’s a lover not a fighter but he’s forced to clear his name in Pluck & Cover with the help of a few zany friends and a couple of off-color jokes.

Praise for the Book:

“Waylon Jenkins is not your typical detective. For one thing, he’s a cosmetologist and make-up artist. For another, he’s dead. Now, this zombie with a keen wit and a warm (non-beating) heart is teaming up with a ghost and the local police captain to find out who’s killing and dismembering men in LA. “Pluck and Cover” delivers paranormal chills, plenty of twists and turns, and lots of laughs along with a one-of-a-kind protagonist readers will want to check in with again and again. ” – Casey Daniels, author of “Don of the Dead” (Pepper Martin Series)

“Do you have make-up remover in the car?” asked Early.

I drew myself up, offended. “Do I have make-up remover in the car? I have my whole kit. You never know.” “You never know when there’s going to be a make-up emergency?” His voice couldn’t have been drier.

“Hey! It’s Los Angeles; stranger things have happened. A month ago, I rescued a bride on her wedding day when it rained. No one plans for rain in L.A., but I happened to be nearby and fixed her face.”

“You’re a hero.” Early picked a long piece of grass from the edge of a trailhead and tucked it between his teeth.

I let him chew on it for a good thirty seconds and then said, “You know, they allow dogs in this park.”

He spat it out.

“Maybe we should leave a message,” I said. “If I were him, I’d want to know what we want, and to make sure we’re not The Industries coming back for him.”

“That’s precisely what we are going to do. Go take off your face.”

I jumped back a few feet. “I beg your pardon?” He couldn’t mean that.

“I meant take off your make-up, you twit. Use that makeup remover you’re so proud of in your car and show your scars. He’ll recognize you as a zombie.”

“So? He won’t know who I am. He’ll think I’m part of a well-laid trap.”

“You are part of a well-laid trap. Our trap.”
