Men of the present didn’t interest archaeologist Evelyn Wright. It was the men of the past who captured her passion.
Five hundred-year-old Prince Alexander slumbers in an enchanted sleep. He awaits the woman destined to breach his impenetrable chamber and awaken him.
Brought together by an unseen force, the career-minded modern woman and the aristocratic Fey Prince share a magical kiss that sparks more than mere romance. Through their joining, they create a key that will open their hearts to a true love strong enough to thwart the plans of an evil Wizard and save both their worlds.
About a year ago in June of 2011, Evelyn Wright, or Evie as she prefers to be called, strode from the mists of my imagination. She told me a fantastic story about how she was tossed from everything she knew into another world. One populated by hot men, beautiful women, and evil Wizards.
For about a year, she’s held me in her thrall. But that’s just Evie. She’s a bit bossy, but charming at the same time – so much so that you have a hard time telling her no.
First, we produced the self-titled novella “Evelyn,” as part of an anthology. When the chance came to split up the stories and publish each individually, Evie was overjoyed! Now she could tell me MORE of her adventures in the world of the Fey.
Destiny’s Awakening is the result. Together she and I created a bigger, bolder, longer version of my novella.
Now I couldn’t forget about Prince Alexander, Evie’s Knight in Shining Armor and another conspirator of mine. He’s been with me since the very first. He’s definitely the strong, silent type, but I knew a lot about him right away. First, he dislikes being called Alex. He prefers Alexander, or “My Prince.” Thankfully he doesn’t insist on “Your Majesty.” Evie of course calls him Alexander for a short while in the story before shortening it to Alex. When he questions this, she gives her reasoning as she’s American and American’s shorten everything.
Evie is a study of contrasts. She’s active, dramatic, extroverted, and skeptical. She questions everything. She is capable, strong, and independent, except when she finds herself in a place where she can’t get through by herself. Then she’ll reach out to Alex and lean on him, trusting that he’ll have her back.
And he does have her back. He cares deeply about his people and is fiercely protective of things he considers his. And you can bet he considers Evie to be his.
I think you can begin to see the contrasts right away with these two. She’s skeptical, impetuous and emotional. He’s steadfast, haughty, and in control. She wants nothing to do with him. He needs her for his very survival. She is fascinated by him. He is in love with her.
Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
Their story doesn’t have very many extra characters. They were pretty isolated for most of the story, learning about each other and also about themselves in the process. There is one very, very bad guy who has it in for Alex. He’s pretty serious about wanting to do away with the prince, and has worked some pretty incredible magic to make sure it is possible. I can’t wait to see what my readers think about him. I personally think he’s a pretty twisted individual that needs to be taken down a peg or two.
And Alex and Evie are just the people to do it.
Getting these two together was quite interesting. They took my basic idea and ran off with it, adding their own personal stamp. I know writing the story has been an interesting ride for me. I hope my readers have as good a time and enjoy the many twists and turns on the ride Evie and Alex will take them on.
She relaxed her muscles as best she could. She was here, in place, and within reach. It was time to kiss him. She took a deep breath and steeled herself for the next step. Still, she hesitated.
Maybe she should talk to him.
“You know, if someone had told me this morning I was going to meet a handsome Prince and I was going to kiss him, never in a million years would I have believed them.” The words rushed out in a long, breathless sentence. She gazed at the intoxicating man beneath her. There was no response. “I’m sorry to do this to you,” she told him, “but I have to kiss you and maybe bring you back to life.” The maybe bring him back to life was the best part. Then he could send her home. She was confident she had what it took to kiss him properly and get him awake.
A dark realization rained on her parade. Reggie had said it might not work. She may not be his Ms. Wright come to awaken him. There may be someone else out there who was his one true love. The image of him with another woman stirred the little bit of jealously deep within her back to life. The emotion gave her the kick she needed to kiss him and prove she could break this sleep thing.
She raised a hand to smooth a stray lock of dark gold hair back from his forehead. It was soft and thick. The touch of the glossy strands against her over-sensitized fingertips nearly burned. That mere touch brought images of her running her fingers passionately through his hair, then pausing to hold his head still so she could plunder his mouth.
She raised herself up and sat hard on the armor. There they were again. Those lustful, carnal thoughts. She didn’t need to hold anything still. The man was comatose. He wasn’t going anywhere.
Lori’s love of reading has transcended to include penning her own tales of romance. She is experimenting with writing in several different genres, including paranormal – a definite favorite. “There is just so much you can do when you step outside the known world,” she explains “and creating a paranormal story allows you to take yourself and your readers anywhere your imagination wants to go!”
Destiny’s Awakening is Lori’s first foray into a planned paranormal romance trilogy. Spanning both the mortal and Fey worlds, be looking for the second novel to continue the legacy with Crown Princess Annora Ambrasia de Sha’mi’liari and Sebastian “Bas” St. James in early 2013 from 5 Prince Publishing.
