A Collection of Poetry
BY KENNA McKINNON
Excerpt
NOTE FROM KENNA: Some love poems for spring, the second darker than the first, but hey, who said love was all jellybeans and unicorns?
5 stars a review from JustJudi: “Kenna McKinnon loves words and imagery, and is masterful at using both.”
BUTTERFLIES
Your bows are leaning by the willow, Merry Men
You gambol in the flowers
take turns with fair Maid Marian
While Robin dances with the cook
There is a certain decorum
that’s lost in springtime
To Sherwood Forest.
Yes, now that May explodes in pink and white
Every oak hides dryads
Who are trysting with the centaurs
The dog discovers secrets
in the scent of broken swaths of baby grass
And all about the puddle-happy world
The butterflies rise up
in yellow speckled clouds
As though to say
We won again!
MAYDAY
You who are a delusion
I chased you through hallways of confectionary
Fast down the tanks of marshmallow crème
to chocolate covered daydreams far past
the bricks of sugar which implacably
you impersonated
ll too well for my adolescent lust.
You knew that yet with candied orchids
poisoned sticks of mulberry still you
plied me with and then I
hallucinated and they told me
I was dangerous.
