Crimson Shadow Book 3

A new threat rises…

Xander Stryker thought he’d seen his fair share. Practically everything and everyone he’d ever known, in fact. But the young vampire warrior was still caught off guard at the loss of his mentor.

And, of course, Estella…

“You promised me it would be alright.”

Her words—that truth—have haunted him ever since.

Now, with nothing left to lose, Xander finds himself living night-by-night in the forest with a pack of shapeshifters. It might not be much, but it’s all he has left.

But even that, he learns, can be taken away.

With the arrival of a ragtag group seeking his help, Xander finds himself pitted against a new breed of enemy: a pair of mythos hunters that have made it their mission to annihilate all nonhumans. So committed to their cause, the pair are willing to sacrifice their own humanity to turn themselves into living weapons to get the job done.

Once more, Xander will have to take up the mantle as warrior to protect what matters most.

If you like the grit of Supernatural, the horror of Stephen King, and the character chemistry of Harry Potter then you’ll love to take a bite into Nathan Squiers’ dark, supernatural series.

Crimson Shadow Book 3

Xander was taking a long way home.

At least he thought it was a way home; quite frankly he didn’t care too much where it took him. He wanted to do some thinking and that’s what the path he’d found himself on allowed him to do. All around him were the sounds of nature, except the rumble of a passing train in the distance. He didn’t let this bother him too much, though; his thoughts wandering from him letting his own namesake down to shooting stars that could never be seen…

Damn was he out of it.

He wasn’t sure if maybe too much UV had gotten to him or if he was just tired, but something was bogging him down.

Refusing to let him focus and head back to the therion pack.

The day was nearly spent, the late afternoon sun hanging in the horizon and waiting for night to swallow it away. An entire day of sleep lost, and no beer to show for it.

Xander sighed; Osehr had no-doubt told them that he’d be coming back with booze, and they’d be pissed to see him show up empty handed.

More than anything, though, he was disappointed—though, ultimately, not surprised—that another day had been spent futilely looking for his lost lover. Sighing and shaking his head he kicked a rock that occupied the corner of the path, letting it roll into the bushes off to the side.

Why did he keep doing this to himself?

Maybe Osehr was wrong; maybe she was gone—left town, or worse…

He chewed his lip and shook his head again.

The path opened then into a clearing. All around him were spare cars for the nearby train station, all lined up and waiting for their chance to be a part of the next big caravan. Somewhere up ahead—on the other side of one of the cars—were several auric signatures. They were close; too close to be anything but a couple of thrill-seeking lovers who wanted to have some fun in a secluded-yet-public location. He smirked and shook his head.

He started on, heading off to the side so that the lovebirds could have their moment alone before stopping again and scanning the auras once more.

One was vibrant; alive and vigorous with sexual anticipation just as he’d expect.

But the other…

Fading fast.

It was barely even alive!

Plus, something else in it; something inhuman.

Something magical.

Xander frowned and glanced back towards the source.

A human was about to rape a dying mythos…

About Author Nathan Squiers…

Nathan Squiers (“The Literary Dark Emperor” and the author formally known as “Prince”) is a resident of Upstate New York. Living with his loving wife & fellow author, Megan J. Parker, two incredibly demanding demon-cats, and fur-baby husky who answers to the name of “Virgil,” Nathan leapfrogs between being a total nerd, a wannabe body builder, and a borderline recluse. When not immersed in his writing or sweating buckets at the gym, he often escapes reality through movie marathons, comics, anime, and gnarly tunes. While out-and-about, The Literary Dark Emperor can be found in the chair of a piercing studio/tattoo parlor, at the movies, or simply loving life with friends & loved ones.

  1. The series sound really interesting.
My favorite vampire books are Lynsay Sands’ Argeneau series and my favorite vampire show was Moonlight where Alex O’Loughlin played a vampire PI.
    Thanks for the chance!

  2. Good morning, Nathan, and welcome to Karen’s Killer Book Bench. I’m intrigued by the excerpt. Sound like my kind of book. Thanks for sharing it with us today!

  3. Brooklyn Ann has a Regency set vampire series that’s different than the normal ones you find. It’s a great way to change up the genre

  4. I used to really like the Noble Dead series by Barb and JC Hendee but I eventually lost interest. There is a fun m/m series by EJ Russell that has a dating service for supernaturals, one of which is called “Vampire with Benefits.” I also enjoyed Charlaine Harris’ “True Blood” AND her “Midnight, Texas” stories. Good luck on the release!
