Starve Hollow Shifters Book 1
BY APRIL LYNN BAKER
Maurel Johnson is tired of her day to day life at the newspaper. Not that she doesn’t like her job, but the abuse she endures at work and at home has her running off. On the run from her husband, she ends up in a little town called Starve Hollow, just outside of Nashville, IN. Getting a job at the local bar is the best option while she saves money to open her own bakery; a dream she has had her whole life. Relationships are the furthest thing from her mind.
Laeruam Montgomery is the local barkeep. Handing out drinks is his specialty. Not to mention, he is the Alpha wolf of the local town pack. Having yet to meet his mate, he runs around with every female in town. What fate has in store for him, he has yet to prepare for.
When the day comes that they two cross paths, their worlds change forever. Her, running from her past with no end in sight. Him, not looking for anything serious, let alone his mate. Her past crashes into his present. He has no choice but to protect his mate from the ghost that haunts her. Will she be able to accept him for what he is? Will he be able to leave his playboy lifestyle and follow his destiny? What secrets await them both as they struggle to close the gap and accept their fates?
Laeruam is quiet for awhile. I don’t know what he’s thinking. I’ll be really surprised if he doesn’t run. Why would anyone take on my baggage?
He breaks the silence first. ” I meant what i said in there, Maureal. No one will touch you. I’d kill them first!, he growls.
I step forward and kiss him. Just a peck on the lips. But he has other ideas. He grabs me around the waist and pulls me into him. He takes my mouth in a demanding way and my legs turn to jelly. Our tongues dual with each other’s and I hear him growl. I whimper and he picks me up and sets me on the hood of his truck. I can’t get enough of him. I need him.
I break the kiss and take a breath. I can’t be doing this. Not right now. I need to deal with this issue before going any further.
I look up at Laeruam and see he’s breathing hard. ” I can’t go any further. Not right now.” I take a breath and look around at the town again. It’s peaceful.
“I need to deal with my husband. Why would you get involved with someone like me?”, I ask.
Laeruam says, ” Because Maureal, you’re my mate.”
