A Series of Angels Book 1
BY JOEL CROFOOT
What happens when the line between good and evil blurs?
The Archangel Michael has been on earth for thousands of years, but nothing could have prepared him for meeting a demonic seductress that he can’t bring himself to kill. Jahi has made a living as seductress, but she’ll be damned if she is going to trade one kind of slavery for another. Each haunted by their past, can they learn to trust in one another, the love that has grown between them? Will they even have time?
The demon horde has changed leadership, and a new drug is sweeping the streets of Los Angeles. With every evil entity out there looking for Jahi, can Michael keep her safe, or is he blinded by a love that will betray him? Do people ever really change?
Michael spread his wings and circled around to land on her roof. He’d given up his downwind position, but he was looking for a fight anyway.
Something about this did not make sense. Demons didn’t cry. Crying indicated remorse, shame, guilt, or some other bad feeling and demons didn’t share these feelings, or if they did they took it out on others. He would have known if they could cry. He had tortured enough of them that he would have seen tears by now.
She was dressed normally, just jeans and a casual black shirt. But her unassuming clothes couldn’t hide the fact that she was stunningly beautiful. Her skin was porcelain smooth and her cheeks contained the pink glow of youth, reddened further from tears at the moment. Her pink lips were pulled back and trembling as she wept. She looked up with wet reddened eyes when he landed.
Yup, she was definitely crying, sobbing actually, and… had she fed the pigeons?
He was frozen in his confusion. He should kill her. Just on the principle that she was a demon he should kill her, but there was something about her that stopped him. Maybe it was his angelic sympathy. Evil he could smite in a flash, but a beautiful, sad, tear-filled woman?
Sure, he’d killed female demons plenty of times, but this one was different. He didn’t want to kill her, he wanted to hug her. He wanted to wrap his arms around her and reassure her that everything was going to be all right. He wanted to kiss away the tears and to ask her to let him protect her. He wanted to see those eyes gaze up at him in adoration.
Wait, those eyes…?
