PLAYING AT LOVE
A Courtside Romance
BY MONIQUE McDONELL
Kyle Samuels is the bad boy of the tennis circuit, and poor Teagan Archer is the good girl who has been sent by his management company to keep him in line. It’s a hot summer of tennis, and things are about to get a whole lot hotter.
Teagan has always wanted to join her father’s sports management team, but Greg Archer thinks it’s no place for his baby girl, so he’s out to prove a point. If she can keep Kyle in line for the summer, she can have her own stable of clients and if not, there’s no spot for her at Archer Sports.
Kyle Samuels knows he should cool it. He can feel everything slipping away, but somehow he just can’t stop himself. Then he gets the news that his family farm is failing back in Australia and they could lose everything. Kyle knows his family sacrificed everything for him and tennis, so now it’s time to step up and play the summer of his life. Unfortunately being told what to do has never worked well for Kyle and Teagan seems to do nothing but that.
It seems they both want the same thing, but can they work together to get it? Or will the chemistry between them combust and burn them both?
Thanks to Karen for having my on the blog today. This week I am releasing the second book in my Courtside Romance series which takes place on the international tennis circuit and features a host of sexy Australian players.
I am Australian and a huge tennis fan. When I was a child all I wanted was tennis lessons. I was a big fan of the lacy knickers and pom pom socks tennis players wore back in the 1970’s! The Australian Open was always on at my grandparents’ house by the beach where we spent the summers. My grandparents loved tennis and I loved them and soon I loved tennis too.
To say I’m not athletic would not be an understatement and yet I’m pretty good tennis player, go figure. To this day it’s the only sport I’m even mildly good at.
I decided I wanted to write a sports romance series and so given I know squat about baseball, American football or ice-hockey, tennis was the natural choice for me. It allowed me to weave in Australian characters which I do in a lot of my novels, even the ones set in the USA.
Let’s be honest, Australia has produced some very fine tennis players over the years, and some fine looking ones too, so it seemed like a natural fit. You don’t have to love tennis to enjoy this series, although if you do it won’t hurt.
Playing at Love, the first book in the series is centred around Teagan and Kyle’s fake engagement. He’s a bad boy who needs to clean up his reputation and she’d his manager who needs to get that done. They were a super fun couple to write about.
I love writing about opposites who are attracted to each other because to me that’s realistic. We all have friends who are so different and yet they just work as a couple. I love asking everyone I meet how they met their partner but with opposites, it’s even more fun.
I actually met my own husband on a tennis court. I was on vacation on a tropical island and playing tennis with some friends. He was on the next court waiting for work colleagues who got held up. He ended up joining us and we played doubles together and the rest, as they say, is history. Oh, and believe me when I tell you we are total opposites. They say you should write what you know and I guess in my own way I am.
So, if you enjoy sweet romances where opposites attract maybe give the first book in the series a try. Playing it Safe, Book 2 releases on Nov 22.
I am an Australian author who writes contemporary women’s fiction including chick lit and romance.
I have written all my life, especially as a child when I loved to write short stories and poetry. At University I studied Creative Writing as part of my Communication degree. Afterward, I was busy working in public relations I didn’t write for pleasure for quite a few years although I wrote many media releases, brochures and newsletters. (And I still do in my day-job!)
When I began to write again I noticed a trend – writing dark unhappy stories made me unhappy. So I made a decision to write a novel with a happy ending and I have been writing happy stories ever since.
I am the author of five stand-alone novels including Mr. Right and Other Mongrels and Hearts Afire and the Upper Crust Series and Jewel Sisters Series. Many of my novels focus on an Australian characters meeting and visiting US characters. In 2015 had a piece on writing chicklit featured in the successful Australian non-fiction book Copyfight.
I live on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with my husband and daughter.
