Welcome to the Roaring Twenties where it is posi-lutely the cat’s pajamas!
My newest release is my first foray into historical romance and I had lots of fun writing and researching it. One of the reason I picked the 1920s is because my grandmother grew up in that time period and she used to tell me stories of when she was a little girl.
Even though the 1920s are 100 years ago, I discovered a lot of things were similar to now. They had telephones, but not exactly like ours, and they had automobiles, but not exactly like ours. They were also recovering from a deadly and devastating war, and an equally horrific pandemic.
My characters have to overcome the effects of both these terrible things. My heroine lost both her husband and her father in the pandemic and decided to become a nurse. In the war, my hero was seriously wounded physically and even more so mentally, with what was then called ‘shell shock’ or ‘battle fatigue’ but we now know as PTSD. I found the challenges of overcoming these things without modern knowledge of safety, sanitation, and medical protocols fascinating and I’m grateful for all the progress we’ve made in the past 100 years.
And then there was the whole issue of Prohibition… but you’ll have to read The Flapper and The Flyboy to find out more about that!
About Author Loucinda McGary...Loucinda McGary’s two great passions are writing and travel. To date she has visited 47 states, 39 countries, and taken 40 cruises. She likes to set her stories of romance and suspense in some of the exotic locations she has visited. Her latest release is The Flapper and the Flyboy, an historical romance set in 1921 New Orleans.
She has three traditionally published novels and seven that are Indie ebooks. Her stories have placed and won several contests and awards including the Romance Writers of America Golden Heart contest, the Australian Romance Readers Awards, and the Kindle Book Review’s Best Indie Book of 2012 and 2013.

EASY DINNER ROLLS
Note from Loucinda: I saw this recipe on Facebook and modified it to my taste
Ingredients:
1 cup Flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 (generous) tbs of mayonaise (I use light mayo)
1/2 cup of milk (I use almond milk)
1 tbs of “Everything Bagel” seasoning
Preheat oven to 425. Combine all ingredients (the dough will be sticky). Spoon into greased muffin tin. (this recipe makes 6 large rolls or 7–8 small rolls)
Bake at 425 degrees for 14 minutes.
Note: If you can’t find the Everything Bagel seasoning you can use…
1 tsp sesame seeds
1 tsp cracked black pepper
1 tsp dried onion flakes
1 tsp garlic salt

I love the whole idea of this book. My grandma also talked a lot about wild times in the 20s. She was in her teens back then.
I also love your recipe. I have to try it. I use almond milk too and it doesn’t work in a lot of recipes. This sounds delicious.

I appreciate you stopping by! I just love the clothes and the automobiles of the 1920s. I remember my grandmother telling me when her mom cut her hair for the very first time, her father was furious and didn’t want to be seen in public with her!
Hope you enjoy the dinner rolls. They are very quick and easy. My DH has a problem with lactose so I always use almond or soy milk.

I love the “Everything But the Bagel” seasoning they sell at Trader Joe’s, but other stores have their own version of it too. It really adds that little extra to the rolls.

This sounds like an interesting story. I spent a week and my 21st bday in New Orleans 58 years ago with the sister of a man who was stationed with my dad in the Army during WWII. Her son and I were out every night down in the French Quarter. During the day spent seeing the sights. It was a beautiful and fascinating city. The dinner rolls sound delish. Thanks for sharing and reminding me of my week spent there.
