Karen’s Killer Fixin’s: BBQ Sauce

Cooking

It’s time for Karen’s Killer Fixin’s! Over the years, I’ve filled two 4-inch, 3-ring binders with my own creations as well as recipes my family and friends were willing to share with me. I simply love to cook and want to share that love with my readers. So every Friday, I share one recipe I think you and your family might enjoy. It might be a main course recipe. A cookie or baked item. Candy. Salads. Whatever strikes my eye and fancy…which today is BBQ SAUCE!

‘Tis the season for barbecues! If you’d like to try your hand at a homemade BBQ sauce, this is the one to try. It’s spicy and savory and delicious!

I hope you enjoy today’s Killer Fixin’s. Happy eating!

BBQ SAUCE
[Makes 16-20 Servings]

2-1/2 cups catsup
¾ cup brown sugar
1-1/2 cup chili sauce
1-1/2 cup wine vinegar
1-1/2 cup water
¾ can beer
¾ cup lemon juice
½ cup mustard
1 T. celery seed
4 T. Worcestershire Sauce
2 T. soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
dash of bottled “hot” pepper sauce
ground pepper to taste

Mix all together and store in the refrigerator in an airtight container. The longer it “steeps”, the better, although you can use right away if necessary!

NOTE: This BBQ sauce is wonderful on hamburgers. It’s also great to change up the flavor of meatloaf. I stuff mine with pepperjack cheese and ham. Then smother the meatloaf with BBQ Sauce (instead of catsup) and parmesan cheese. Delicious!

Happy Eating!

Looks good! I’m lazy and buy Heinen’s (a local grocery store) sauce because it is tasty. I admire people who take the time to make homemade sauces!

  4. Eileen AW says:

Looks like a wonderful recipe. I like your idea about stuffing the meatloaf. I already add BBQ sauce to my meatloaf.

I don’t make just plain old meatloaf any more. Sometimes I use ham or pepperoni. If I want bacon, I wrap it around outside so it crisps. But always put cheese inside. It works into the meat and is so moist. 🙂
