Welcome to Novel Gems ~ Shifting Dreams by JM Kline
SNEAK PEEK ~ 01-08-13!
I love to sneak a peek into a writer friend’s developing novel. It’s just so much fun watching their story grow and getting the inside scoop. So every Tuesday until I finish my romantic suspense, Killing Secrets, I’ve been sharing a gem with you ~ a couple of sentences, several paragraphs of a pivotal scene, or a phrase that just made me sigh or laugh out loud or scares me or…well, you get the picture.
I am back to work on this story since my surgery and holiday hiatus. Today, however, I’m turning your attention to my daughter’s paranormal young adult story, Shifting Dreams. It’s the first of an exciting new shapeshifter series and I can’t wait to share her talent with you.
A bit of set up for today’s gem….
In this excerpt, the young heroine, Tessa Brooks, is learning about her heritage – and she is not happy about it! And that’s all you’re getting! 🙂
SHIFTING DREAMS by JM Kline
I ran. I ran out of the living room, up the stairs, into my bedroom, and slammed the door. What else could I do? My parents just turned into animals. Yep, that is what I saw. Animals. In my living room.
“Tessa?” Dad was on the other side of the door. “Tessa honey, open up. Your mom and I didn’t mean to scare you. We just wanted you to know we weren’t joking.”
“I’ll stay in here, thank you very much. There are no crazy animals in here.” I heard Dad sigh and a minute later, he walked away.
I looked at my bed and decided I needed to make it. I threw the purple and black cover over my pillows and fluffed it all around. I put my stuffed animals on the top of the bed. I took them off and threw them in the corner. I went over and set them all on my shelf, smallest to biggest. Then biggest to smallest.
What was I even doing?
I’m pretty sure I was in shock. I mean, how was I supposed to react to news like this? My parents tell me I’m a freak, from a family of freaks, and they expect me to just… what? Be cool with it? Right.
I opened my window and carefully climbed out. I had to talk to Chloe. She wouldn’t believe this one.
….see you next Tuesday with another NOVEL GEM!
