Novel Gems ~ 11-13-12 ~ Killing Secrets by Karen Docter

Welcome to Novel Gems ~ Killing Secrets 11-13-12!

I love to sneak a peek into a writer friend’s developing novel. It’s just so much fun watching their story grow and getting the inside scoop.  So every Tuesday until I finish my romantic suspense, Killing Secrets, I’ll share a gem with you ~ a couple of sentences, several paragraphs of a pivotal scene, or a phrase that just made me sigh or laugh out loud or scares me or…well, you get the picture.

A bit of set up for today’s gem….

Patrick is threatened…and that’s all you’re getting! 🙂

Happy Reading!

Killing Secrets by Karen Docter

“I didn’t kill anyone,” he said, his voice calm for the crazy man.  “Why don’t you put that gun down?  We’ll go into,” his gaze bounced off the trailer several feet away where Amanda and Suze were safely tucked away, “somewhere and talk.”

“Liar!  I saw! What you did—” Huge tears ran down his lined cheeks, a river of anguish.  “You, you, oh, dear God, you—”

The gun lifted and Patrick found himself looking directly down the barrel.  A pull on the trigger now, at this range, and Patrick was a dead man.

“Mister.  You don’t want to do this.”  The gentle, Southern voice to his left warned Patrick that Rachel was moving into danger closer to him.  What the hell was she doing?

Rachel had caught the man’s attention. The gun waved in her direction, and Patrick knew real fear for the first time in his life.  His heart pounded.  Sweat popped out on the back of his neck.  He reached out a hand to stop her, to push her behind him again.  But she was just out of reach.

….see you next Tuesday with another NOVEL GEM!
