Wacky Wednesday: 5 things you don’t know about me….

When I started blogging, I decided to use my blog to list five interesting — or not so interesting — facts about me. I’m going to continue that on the occasional Wacky Wednesday until I run out of things to post or you all tell me to stop being so self-absorbed. 🙂

16.  I currently have about 20 Zebra Finches in a small glass aviary. Started with two pairs and had a delightful time watching them nest. Didn’t take me long to figure out they breed year round, every 5-6 weeks, and they weren’t too picky about their gene pool.  I know — ewww!  I also have one lonely female canary I’d like to find a mate. Although they can have couple of clutches, they only nest once a year. I would love to raise singing canaries!

17.  I went on only one blind date in my life, and promptly married him.  He’s the reason I believe in HEA (happily ever after)!

18.  I conduct a workshop called The “W” Plot…Or The Other White Meat for Plotters for various writing groups, both online and in person.  The lectures are also available online at my website at www.karendocter.com. I enjoy visiting other parts of the country, meeting writers, and teaching the plotting method I personally use to writing my stories. I’m already booked through January 2013!

19.  I love dragons.  A small collection looks down at me from the ledge behind my desk. Most are made from pewter.

20.  I once sat next to Wilford Brimley [1980’s drama series/Our House, Cocoon, The Crossfire Trail, The Firm, Quaker Oats ads] on an airplane.  My kids were too shy to ask for an autograph.  Being a good mom, I got one for them.  One of the few times Mom was actually cool!

[If you’re wondering about the numbers, this ongoing list of “5 new things” is not the first I’ve posted. To learn more about me, check the Wacky Wednesday category menu.]

  1. Hi, Karen ~

I love this idea! I sometimes do a “Maybe You Don’t Know” on Monday’s. Same idea, different name. :0)

Your #17 made me say, “Awwww!” That’s so sweet!

I LOVE your “W” Plot class. I took it a couple years ago and had a major breakthrough with my writing!

Enjoyed learning a little more about you! Have a great day ~

Hi, Tiff! I love this special feature of my blog but I try not to do more than once a month. More than that and I feel like I’m boring people. 🙂

Yeah, my husband is also my best friend, literally my other half. We’ve been together 32 years.

I’m glad you’ve been able to carry the “W” home from the class and use it on your writing. It’s a wonderful tool!

Love chatting with you. It’s been too long since we just sat and talked. Have a great day yourself.

I love dragons too, Karen. I was born in the year of the dragon (1964) and have a dragon tattoo on my lower back.

I was born in the year of the monkey…which is probably why I like dragons. 🙂 If I had the funds I’d be a dragon collection fool. I don’t love them enough to get a tattoo though. I’m such a wimp. Passed out when I got my ears pierced when I was 15.

I’ll bet your dragon is pretty. Is it intricate?

  3. Ginny Lester says:

    Hiya,

Wilford Brimley lives in Greybull, Wyoming, a mere fifty miles from where I live in Cody. He visited our hospital. Took a friend there so I could not ask for his autograph because of patient confidentiality although he was not a patient. Missed my chance. Love your website. Very impressive.

Hi, Ginny. I have to say, I was intimidated to ask him since I’m sure he gets tired of people stopping him for autographs and I did have him cornered in the seat next to me on the plane. But he was very gracious and the kids were thrilled. I’m sorry you missed your opportunity.

Thanks for the nice words about my website. I had a lot of fun desiging it. Can you tell I love primary colors? 🙂

I hope you come visit my blog again someday soon,Ginny. Merry Christmas!

      Karen
