**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with Ashlynne Laynne
Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a fulltime writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share.
First, I’d like to thank Karen for having me on today. My name is Ashlynne Laynne and I live in North Carolina with my husband and teenage son. I consider myself a sort of Gothic flower child and tend to love an eclectic mix of music and media. I’m a full-time employee of a major power company and part time writer. My goal is to write full-time someday soon. I write erotic romance and I’m currently writing in the paranormal sub-genre. I’m a homebody who loves to cook and spend time with my family. An interesting quirk about me is that I am afraid of clowns and have been since seeing Stephen King’s It, when I was younger.
1. How did you get started writing?
Ashlynne: I can trace my desire to write back to age eight, when I placed third in an oratorical contest on ‘Freedom in America.’ It was the first time I realized the power of my words.
2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?
Ashlynne: I write erotic paranormal romance with vampires and witches. I’ve always loved the horror movie genre and anything taboo.
3. What is your favorite part of writing?
Ashlynne: (chuckles to herself) sending the final draft into my publisher.
4. What is your least favorite part of writing?
Ashlynne: (frowns) Editing and I can attest to my answer. I’m currently in rounds of editing for Blood Bonds and I can tell you that it’s nerve wrecking.
5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?
Ashlynne: The Progeny started as a dream about my hero, Ascher. I called my late grandmother and told her about the dream. She, of course, had no clue what it meant but I immediately began sketching the amulet that my guys wear around their necks. The rest is history.
6. What is it that makes your writing different from all the others in your genre?
Ashlynne: The fact that my hero is a half-bloodling (half-human, half vampire) is the biggest difference. Writing such a complex and conflicted character mentally wears me out. I often wonder if I should have just written about full-blooded vampires and left well enough alone, but I’m told that Ascher’s story is one of the most compelling parts of the series. The unique love story between my bi-racial human Wiccan and half-blood is also different from others. As far as love scenes, I tend to write more from an emotional point of view. I’m more concerned with what my characters are feeling during the scenes and frequently draw from personal experience to make them believable.
7. Are you an avid reader? When you do read someone else’s writing, what is your favorite genre?
Ashlynne: I wouldn’t say I’m an avid reader but when I do read I tend to steer clear of vampire books, simply because it’s my genre and I don’t want to influence my unique perspective. Romance novels are my favorite and I’m a hopeless romantic at heart.
8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?
Ashlynne: As I mentioned earlier, I’m in edits for the upcoming, second installment in my Progeny Series entitled Blood Bonds. It picks up three weeks after The Progeny ends and is the continuation of Ascher and Shauna’s story. Blood Bonds is set to release within the next month.
