**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with Author, JM KLINE
Before we start talking about her writing, I want to thank JM for joining us today and telling us a little about herself and her new YA, releasing this week! Welcome, JM!
1. How did you get started writing?
I’ve had stories in my head for as long as I can remember. Growing up with a mom who’s a writer really helped that, I think. I had a dream that was so incredibly vivid, I just knew it would make an amazing book. My mom encouraged me to write about it, so I did.
2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?
The two stories I have right now are Young Adult Paranormals based on a fictional small town in Colorado.
I write in YA because there really wasn’t anything like it when I was growing up. I ended up reading all of the Dean Koontz and Stephen King I could get my hands on. Trust me when I say that It is not appropriate reading material for an eleven-year-old. No matter how mature they are. :-/
3. What is your favorite part of writing?
I love letting the characters tell me what’s going to happen. I start off with a general idea of what the story is going to be, and I let them pretty much take over.
4. What is your least favorite part of writing?
EDITING! Okay, seriously. I know just about every writer says this, but it’s for GOOD REASON! When you’ve spent the last several months writing the story you want to tell, reading it over and over and over and… well, you get the picture. At some point, you just want it done.
5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?
Like I said previously, I had a dream about my current series. In it, *I* was the one with the big change. I really liked the idea that the big change would come along with the craziness that is high school.
6. What is your typical day like?
I’m a stay at home mom, so that pretty much takes up most of my day. The only time I get to write is whenever the littlest one goes down for a nap and I tell the oldest one to “find something to do and only talk to me if you’re bleeding.” Okay, I may not be that mean… most days.
7. What is most difficult for you to write? Characters, conflict or emotions? Why?
Honestly, none of these really give me too many fits, but conflict is probably going to win this time around. There are times when I just can’t bring myself to make my characters cry, but then I realize it’s a great opportunity to outfit them with swords so they can slash and maim and… wait, what was the question?
8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?
My next book is Shifting Dreams. It is about Tessa Brooks, a young girl who just found out that her family is keeping a HUGE secret from her. She, along with the rest of the town, is a shape-shifter. While there are wolves in Shadow Hills, this is not your typical town of shape-shifters.
Shifting Dreams is being released June 19 for Kindle, and sometime soon after that in print. Please also check out The Christmas Shift, my holiday short story set in the same town.
