**AUTHOR PEEK** Interview with Author, T.L. JONES
Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a fulltime writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share.
Karen, first I would like to say thank you for interviewing me and taking the time to help other authors get their work out to more people.
I want to share just a little about myself real quick to let your readers get to know me.
I was a police officer for years, and then found my husband and I had an empty nest, which really hit me hard, so I quit law enforcement to stay home and write full time. I really love bringing my characters to life, creating fictional beings people can relate to on many levels is a passion.
After a terrible experience with a publisher I decided to go it on my own. I am learning daily new tricks of the trade. I never imagined the amount of work involved in writing and let me tell you, it is never ending.
When I can manage to slip away my husband, Dave, and I scuba dive. Underwater there is a whole new world to explore and so fascinating.
Of course, like many writers I enjoy reading. There‘s nothing better than curling up with a good book and escaping to new places with new people.
I don’t want to bore anyone too much, so on with the interview.
1. How did you get started writing?
Actually this is pretty funny, I mentioned already how much I love reading, one day while my hubby and I were both off work together (which was very uncommon) I told him I wanted to try my hand at writing a novel. I took off for my reading room with laptop in hand. Four hours later when Dave came to check on me, I was three chapters into my first novel. The words seemed to flow from me naturally.
2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?
I write paranormal mysteries. I have always been drawn to paranormal movies and books. Actually anything paranormal fascinates me.
3. What is your favorite part of writing?
I have to say the creative journey. Watching my characters come to life and entertain in their own quirky ways.
4. What is your least favorite part of writing?
The days or even months when nothing seems to flow. The writing comes to a complete standstill.
5. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?
That is a very good question. I really don’t know. I never write from an outline. I get the urge to write, sit down at my computer, and the words flow for the most part. Sometimes I have to give thought to certain situations or characters, but for the most part my writing has a life of its own.
6. What is your typical day like?
Not as glamorous as I’d like. Most days are spent learning the publishing side lately. I am between books right now, since my third novel released late October. I am taking a slight break before beginning my next novel to work out some frustrating issues with publishing/promoting my work.
7. What is the most difficult for you to write? Characters, conflict or emotions? Why?
The most difficult for me to write is conflict or emotions I guess. I think maybe that is because we have to make someone the ‘bad guy’ with evil/nasty intentions or actions, and I struggle sometimes trying to decide whom that ‘bad guy’ will be.
8. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?
As I said, I’m between books right now, but my next project will be my third and final book in my “Jaded Series”. I hope to begin soon and finish sometime around late spring early summer.
