LASTING Thanksgiving memory….I had a half sister that was 13 years younger than me who was born with severe Cerebral Palsy. This particular Thanksgiving I fed her. She was 38 years old. This was the first day that I could remember that she had no congestion and had no problems eating or talking. We had more fun that day laughing and teasing each other, which we always did. She had a fantastic sense of humor. That Saturday mom went in to wake her up. She had passed away peaceably in her sleep. I will always remember having a fantastic Thanksgiving with her.
What a bittersweet memory, Judy! I’m glad you had such a wonderful day to remember with your sister. Thanks for sharing your memory.

Books that have stayed in My mind are Never Let You Go (On Goodreads as The Good Mother) by Sinead Moriarty This was a VERY emotional book that made me cry. I just LOVED it.

Pumpkin pie is my favorite, too, especially since I only make it fresh from pumpkins I’ve cooked down myself. Love the lighter touch of spices I use, too. Yummmm!

My favorite treat….probably my homemade cinnamon rolls (I make for Christmas). Thanksgiving would be my husband’s turkey.
Memories are hard for me – but I will say that my favorite Thanksgivings are when all the kids and grandkids are together – as they grow up and move this is much more difficult. My aunt does a family Thanksgiving on Saturday after…for all the relatives close by – she took that on since she is the oldest of the close relatives. I go every few years and have enjoyed getting to know my cousins’ kids.
Samantha, it is difficult when family moves on. Thankfully, one of my daughters has taken on the holidays and inviting as many of the family that can come. My husband and I enjoy seeing them and the grandchildren, but I miss seeing one of my daughters and her children there. I’ll take what i can get! 🙂

My favorite Thanksgiving dish is my sweet potato casserole. Favorite memory is a a weird one. My mom broke her ankle about month prior while I was in college. As we were preparing everything to put on the table, my stubborn mom started hopping across the kitchen with a carving knife. I went over & removed the knife from her hand and made her go sit down & gave her the platter of turkey to carve. It was the first time I ever stood up to my mom. She was not happy with me, but she was being dangerous.
I feel the same way about my sweet potatoes. I haven’t done canned for years since I make them from scratch. Much less sweet and delicious. Good for you standing up to your mom. I actually had a similar holiday sitting on the couch after my back surgery. It’s so hard to give up the things you do regularly, even if only for one meal. Thankfully, my kids did the same thing to me and gave me my orders. We all ate in the living room where i “queened” it over everyone from the couch. LOL

Love Roast Turkey
I do, too, Barbara. However, in my old age I discovered deep fried turkey and I can’t remember the last time I roasted one. I can prepare (rather husband deep fries, BONUS) a 20+ pound turkey in a little over an hour. So delicious, we seldom have leftovers. 🙂

I remember having thanksgiving dinner with my mom and dad. I just loved her Carrot Cake. Home made mind you. And how we would all sit down at the table to eat and talk about life. Now a days nobody does that anymore. It’s all about cell phones and we don’t talk to each other. And that’s what I miss about my family thanksgiving.
I hear you, Cindy. It can be challenging to get an entire family together these days. Thankfully, my middle daughter has taken on our Thanksgiving get-togethers so we do spend quality time together, catch up and enjoy the grandchildren. I’m sorry you’re missing that. Hugs!

My favorite memories are of the whole family gathering at my in-laws house and sharing our meal and love. So many people are gone now, I truly miss those days.
I love getting the family together, too, SueB. Thankfully, my one daughter has taken that on. Looks like I won’t make this year’s dinner since I came down with a vicious cold I don’t dare pass on to the little ones.

I love this time of year for pumpkin everything – PSLs, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, etc. I also love hot apple cider. Nothing like a cup of that on a cold night while reading a good book. One holiday treat that I do miss is my parents’ mushroom stuffing. My kitchen skills are rather limited, so I haven’t quite braved making it myself yet (although it’s probably not all that complicated). Whenever they made it, though, it was a crowd favorite. I think most people (including myself) would have been perfectly content to make a meal of that and skip the turkey.
I’m a pumpkin-everything fan, too, Deanna. I buy pumpkins for Halloween and cook them down and freeze it for treats all year long. I’ve got a pumpkin gingerbread that is to die for and make it once in a while for extended family. You should try to recreate the mushroom stuffing sometime. You may surprise yourself and become the new crowd favorite. 🙂

I love my moms cranberries she makes every year and a green salad (jello) dish that was my grandmothers recipe. I’m making the green salad this year to take to my in-laws. This year is going to be memorable because it is the first time in 20 years that we are not traveling to NC to my parents house. Why? Because they moved back to MI and just purchased a home. So, we are all going to my in laws! And the book that still sticks with me is Elude by Rachel Van Dyken. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

My favorite has always been the Green Bean Casserole that my mom makes every year. I have tried but does not ever come out like hers. Thankful for my mom too as she has been in remission from cancer since 1980. she had the operation on my 14th bday and they were able to get all of it. she still has some issues due to surgery but she is strong and perseveres.
What a wonderful Thanksgiving! Good for your mom! I wish her well. Maybe you two can make the casserole together so you can see how she does it.

My nana was a favlous cook at thanks giving she would bake apple pie & apple dumplings pumpkin pie sweet pototoe pie and 2 different pecan pies 1 would have extra pecans for me desserts were always the best part I haven’t had any pecan pie that comes close to hers 😘

One book that stayed with ne years after the fact was a book called a daughters place. I ended up buying it again years later because I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Wow, that’s quite a testimony to the staying power of the story. I’ve had several like that. I have a Keeper Shelf that is entirely too full, but they are books I’ll reread again and again.

My favorite memory is the last time my whole family was together which was in 1999 it was my mom’s last before she past away. It was a sad but also a happy time. I love all the food that is made for Thanks giving.

I am very thankful for great friends and supportive family that have been there through the good and the bad. Being a cancer survivor, you see things in a different way and appreciate what you once took for granted. Through my sickness, treatment and depression after, I’ve managed to lose alot of so-called friends and those who called themselves family. Therefore am that much more appreciative for all their support.
It is the hard life events that try a person’s support system, i know. Good for your friends and family who supported you. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving!

My greatest Thanksgiving memory was the first year I dated my husband back in 1978. NO, we didn’t celebrate with the Pilgrims either! He asked me to join his whole family to partake in their Thanksgiving tradition. WOW! I’m an only child and never knew there were actually enough people with the same last name to fill up eight card tables full of folks in the same family. I was overwhelmed, overjoyed and downright in awe of these people.
His tiny mom was my all-time favorite person. She took to me right away and made me feel like real family. I not only loved my boyfriend (husband of 37 yrs.) but fell in love with his momma on that special day.
What a wonderful experience, Diana! My husband’s family was the same way. I have a small family so getting them all together was fun. I loved my in-laws, too. I miss them.

This Thanksgiving I’m thankful to spend Thanksgiving with my two sons,and my great nephew. My great nephews father passed away two days before Thanksgiving last year. He was my nephew. My great nephew lost his dad and grandmother, who was my sister. I’m just thankful we can all be together this year. My two sons and my great nephew. We have to all be there for each other. My great nephew will turn 7 on Thanksgiving day.
It’s wonderful to spend time with our loved ones. Good for you keeping that tradition alive for your family.

I love my mom’s pecan pie and my mother in law’s cornbread stuffing.
I’ve never had either of those. Our go-to is fresh pumpkin pie and oyster dressing. Gotta love the holiday foods!

I am thankful that my family and home made it thru the CA wildfire season safely, that my father in law has been cancer free for 5 years, that my brother in law is cancer free for one year, my nephew and his wife had their baby girl safely delivered after months of bed rest Mom and baby doing great, my other nephew is getting married next June and there will be a huge family reunion, that my husband and I each still have our jobs and can afford to host Thanksgiving for family and friends this year. Favorite Thanksgiving memory. There are really so many because it’s such a special day for all families and friends. One I truly treasure is when my daughter was born. Both my children had the audacity to enter this world one week early clearly surprising the worst procrastinator ever known to man (yes, me.) She was born November 20. I think it was about five or six days before Thanksgiving. She was small, coming in at 5 lbs., 9 oz. Needless to say, waking every 1 1/2 to 2 hours to feed. We were tired but so thrilled. Dinner was at my Mom’s. Everyone pitched in with the cooking and the prep. I was thinking hubby and I were going to take turns eating and taking care of Catherine. Well, she fell asleep at dinner time. I put her in the middle of mom and dad’s big bed. Being six days old, she wasn’t going anywhere in that bed. It was magical. She slept and she slept. We were all able to sit down and eat, enjoy, laugh, tell stories. I checked on her a few times, because I could not believe my ears. LOL. A sleeping baby for hours at a time. Well, my sleeping baby who didn’t sleep for hours and hours at a time.
What a wonderful story, Cynthia. My youngest was born on November 23rd. It was a bad delivery, a crash c-section, but we survived and the hospital allowed me to go home on Thanksgiving. No turkey and all the trimmings but we were home. He and my mom (hers is 25th) share Thanksgiving as the turkey. This year is my son’s turn. Babies can be more blessings during the holiday.

Any holiday treats if it is sweet, I love it ❤️ 💕 💗 A good memory of a thanksgiving dinner is with the church members. We having a blast n stay all night long…. Everyone was smiling nonstopped. A book that always in my mind (though I don’t remember the title) is a book I been waiting for at least a year until the author updates chapter by chapter (cause I can’t wait to find out what going to happen next). I thought it will definitely end with HEA but no. The lead man die and the lead lady got marry to another guy who is not her mate (a werewolf romance with no HEA) 😢😟🤭 Until these days I still remember that book. I love it except the end.
Holidays can be so special when you have family and don’t let the holiday stress run over you. I love the holidays. I’m bummed I’m too sick this year to go to my daughter’s house for Thanksgiving. We see each other often but there’s something special about Thanksgiving.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving, we would gather at my aunt’s house and have a big, family Thanksgiving with my Pennsylvania-German family. Turkey with sides that are unique to our heritage. It was fun to get together with aunts and uncles, cousins, and our grandma.
What a great tradition! I’m originally from Pennsylvania and German as well. We left Pensy when I was young but I remember some of the fun foods. I need to make scrapple for my mom for Christmas. 🙂 Thanks for reminding me!

Holiday memories definitely – I am a character to start with and extremely competitive so I require my family – mind you my eldest is 30- to interact at family holidays – board games etc- one year we were playing the wii and I got a little excited okay competitive whatever 😅 and took out my daughter with the game racket poor thing – they give me lots of room to this day
