TEMPORARILY OUT OF LUCK
Hattie Cooks Mystery Book 3
BY VICKI BATMAN
Great job. What man? And murder. Newly employed at Wedding Wonderland, Hattie Cooks is learning the industry from a woman she greatly admires. When her former brother-in-law is found dead in his luxury SUV, all fingers point to Hattie’s sister, who is planning her own I Dos.
Detective Allan Wellborn is caught between a rock and a hard place—Hattie’s family and investigating the murder of a well-connected Sommerville resident, the same loser who was once married to Hattie’s sister. Determining who’s the bad guy—or gal—isn’t going to be easy and sure to piss off someone.
Can Hattie beat the clock to find out who murdered Tracey’s ex before the police charged her with the crime and her wedding is ruined?
Have you ever worked temporary jobs? I have-sorta. I worked at an amusement park during my teenage years. That job was concerned “seasonal work.” I was paid less than minimum wage (but made more than babysitting). When I wanted to work there the following year, I had to go through the hiring process again.
During college, I worked at a hardware store. Super nice people owned the business, and I learned enough to know my way around the plumbing supplies.
For the last semester of my senior year of college, I worked at an antique store. I did a lot of dusting and arranging. The owner and I talked about the nuts and bolts of running a small business. She became a good friend.
During the boys’ middle years, I occasionally worked for a children’s bookstore. I did inventory, special events, etc. After that, I worked for a friend who had a wholesale business in Apparel Mart. She carried hair accessories, scarves, shoes, lots of handbags, etc. I squeezed in my time after the school day began and ended and on weekends when Handsome took over. That was a fun job and using my retail experience was a plus-plus.
Having different jobs taught me many skills, or I used ones I hadn’t used before. Always good to be valued for that.
