The Plundered Chronicles Book Book 5

If the Croatoans on Roanoke don’t kill her, one of the many women in Captain Quinn Callaghan’s life will.

Heading to the New World to bring a mysterious box to Lady Killigrew’s sister, Quinn and her pirate shipmates face dangers unlike any they have ever encountered. The journey alone is fraught with perils, but what they find when they land in Roanoke is enough to chill even a hardened pirate’s bone.

But this delivery is barely less dangerous than the women in Quinn’s life–a couple of whom wish to see her dead while another reunites with her. As Quinn is forced to recognize the eventual collapse of Ireland as well as the end of some of her deepest friendships, she makes a decision that will alter the fate of both her life and her crew’s.

In this fifth installment of the Plundered Series, you will be taken on a ride that will leave you breathless with every turn of the page as Quinn struggles to keep her men, her women, and herself alive.

The Plundered Chronicles Book Book 5

I just finished the final book in the pirate series and it made me very sad. Sometimes, you can finish a series and it feels right…like it’s the right time. It’s like saying goodbye to friends who have stayed just long enough, and you know you might never see them again. Then there are those series and those characters that have settled in your heart that the very idea of not seeing them every day hurts.

This is one such series.

I have grown to really love and admire Quinn Callaghan.

Quinn starts out as a young noble girl who dresses like a pirate so she can board a pirate ship to track down her friend who was kidnapped. She ends up becoming a female captain who still dresses like a pirate, but chooses to help some of the greatest women in European history.

It is her growth as a person I admire. Her integrity as a person, and her loyalty to those she loves that I will miss. Quinn becomes so much more than she started. In her travels, she meets monarchs, travels the world, and finally, becomes someone determined to make a difference in the lives of women. Quinn Callaghan is someone I would want for my best friend, and it that friend I am already missing.

Writing historical novels, for me, is so much fun because I truly enjoy playing with history…filling in the blanks (and there are more blanks than facts)..second guessing what historians think they know. I loved being in a playground with Queen Elizabeth, Mary Queen of Scots, Catherine Medici, Sayyida al Hurra, and of course, the indefatigable Grace O’Malley.

What can one say about a real female pirate who lived to be 70 at a time when the average person working a “safe” job, lived to be 40?

When I first started thinking about this series, I was actually going to write it with Grace as the protagonist…but then I realized I wanted her character’s essences to be in every book…she was the roots, the ground wire, as it were.

And I fell in love with her.

So much so, that I am traveling to Ireland in 2019 to Galway, where there is finally a statue erected of her. Grace, and so many women like her throughout history, paved the way for other women to be something greater than what society would have allowed.

These women need to be celebrated. They need to be remembered. They need to be characters in a crazy writer’s stories.

So I placed Quinn on the deck of the ship of a women I, myself, would have risked my life for…a woman so amazing, an entire country couldn’t hide for long.

And so I watched Quinn grow from feeble deckhand to skilled swordsman, pirate, and leader of men who willingly followed her into every single dangerous adventure. They loved her.

I love her.

Quinn Callaghan is one of those character that stays with you long after you’ve finished the book, and I, for one, am so happy she came into my life.

I miss her already.

I imagine I always will.

It is my hope that she impacts others the way she impacted me.

I am a better person for meeting her.

I am stronger writer for knowing her.

And when I grow up, I hope I am just like her.
