Twelve Drummers Drumming brought a dozen of the best percussionists together in Spring City, Kentucky. The Christmastime competition hosted musicians from all walks of life and all over the world. Each drummer wanted to win illustrious prizes but also prove to the world who rocks the best beats.

Bennett Murphy entered Twelve Drummers Drumming on a dare by his stepfather. He expected to gain experience and learn from the best. What came from it, however, was a ticket to the finals and the chance for something great. The competition gave Bennett more than bragging rights…his future changed forever.

Twelve Drummers Drumming Book 1

“I don’t know where you’re from, sweetheart, but wherever it is, I guarantee you it’s warm,” Mia said, as Fiona’s next contestant approached the counter.

Bennett’s smile stretched plum across his face, and he wore those pearly whites proudly.

“I do like the beach,” he told Mia. She found out he was from Siesta Key, Florida, and they traded stories from the Sunshine State, as Mia had just visited there earlier in the summer.

He was fine with a sweet tea, and she convinced him to let her add a little peach syrup. Owen came back from his break, eager to meet more boys.

“You must be Miss Fiona?” he asked.

“And you are?” Fiona smiled, which brought out his smile once again.

“Bennett Murphy, ma’am. Pleasure is all mine.” He reached out and grazed the top of her knuckles with his lips. The old-fashioned gesture made her want to melt right there.

Bennett had just finished college at the University of Florida, majoring in Music Marketing, which fueled his plans to take over his stepfather’s music store in Siesta Key.

“I can play most instruments, give lessons, and now that I’ve finished my degree, I have a few plans to take our business to the next level,” he told Fiona.

Mia dropped off his drink and they continued talking. It’s a wonder Fiona heard a word he was saying, she was barely able to break away from staring to actually listen to him talk.

Energy was in the air, and nerves were high, as their few minutes of fame had come and gone. Fiona ushered drummer after drummer across the stage, but her eyes were set on one in particular. Throughout their three-day friendship, Bennett and Fiona had grown close and very-much enjoyed each other’s company.

Drum set pieces, snare solos, and even a little singing from Antonio wowed the judges. The contestants were all unique in their own ways, and they were all very deserving of both Raleigh and Dafne’s generosity, and the prizes organized through the competition.

Each drummer was called up individually on stage to stand as the awards would be given out, “Tucker Lee of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; Antonio Ryan of Nashville, Tennessee; Axel Bryant of New York, New York; Dallas Scott of Spokane, Washington; Jameson Ward of Toronto, Canada; Donovan Hughes of Chicago, Illinois; Asher Honanie of Flagstaff, Arizona; Bennett Murphy of Siesta Key, Florida; Diego Videla of Buenos Aires, Argentina; Dominic Fielding of Corpus Christi, Texas; Kai Winters of Santa Monica, California; and last but not least, Luca König of Milan, Italy. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give these fine musicians a round of applause!”

The crowd roared for the group of percussionists as an envelope was handed to the commentator.

About Author Tiffany Carby…

Author Tiffany Carby is a Kentucky native skilled in the art of storytelling. A journalist, columnist, and blogger who works in communications, she has a knack for narrative that keeps her story flowing.

Not all of her storytelling skills came from the classroom. Being born in Louisville and spending time in central and southeastern areas of the commonwealth, Carby developed a sharp ear for dialogue and an appreciation for the tales spun by friends and family from the South and Appalachia. As a Southerner, yes, she says “y’all,” drinks sweet tea, and shares a love of college basketball with most of her fellow residents of the Bluegrass state.

Writing wasn’t just a goal; it was a destiny for Carby. She wrote her first book while in the fifth grade—a story about an alien with a one-of-a-kind name, Orangepeachrumple. Though it didn’t circulate farther than her parents, she was hooked. Though publishing many non-fiction works over the years, She’s a Tiger Lily was the debut of her fiction work and beginning of her Company of Griffins series. Since then she has added another growing series called Mint Condition.

Carby resides near Lexington, Kentucky, with her husband, curly-headed moppet of a daughter, and bull-headed tabby cat.
