In your own words, how would you describe your book?

For Better or For Cursed is a dark paranormal romance about what happens when a dead man’s obsession with his ex-wife reaches beyond the grave. This tale is set in the same world as the mystery series Bella Emy and I co-wrote, Avalisse Ross Mysteries, and features some of the same beloved characters.

What surprised you most when writing this book with your co-author?

This is the third co-write I’ve done with Bella. We work well together, and discuss everything before making a plot decision. For the last two books, Bella wrote the heroine (Avalisse) and I wrote the hero (Leo), but in this book, we swapped personalities, which was fun. Although, normally she writes the steamy scenes and in this story, she cut off her chapter just as it was getting good, and made me write it. Sneaky.

What was it like to work with your co-author?

Bella is a fast writer, and forces me to stay at a better pace than I would maintain on my own, but she has eons of patience when it comes to me. She’s positive, supportive, writes some of the hottest sex scenes I’ve ever read, and has a dirty mind (sorry, girl). P.S. We’re already discussing the next case.

What inspired this story?

This story came from a back and forth conversation between Bella and I, when she asked me to co-write with her for this set. With the theme being possession, we landed on the idea of a woman being haunted by her ex-lover. Which developed into a jealous spirit that possessed the woman’s new boyfriends and forced them to kill themselves. Dark, right? The story snowballed from there. 

Can you tell us what your favorite part of the book is?

I can be a bit tongue-in-cheek when writing. At the beginning of the book is a scene between Lara (our heroine) and Milo (the ghost) where he reveals that Lara murdered him. Here’s a little taste.

“You and I both know the divorce was never finalized.” His mouth twisted. “I died first.”

“That was an accident.” Lara narrowed her eyes as he sat on the bed, his body now a solid form.

“An accident is one time, love.” He reached out and captured her chin between his fingers, pinching. His eyes glowed black. “How many times did you stab me?”

“Not enough, apparently.” Lara jerked her chin free of his icy grip.

Q&A Cassius

1. What song makes you unconditionally happy and why?
Black Out Days by Phantogram because it touches my soul… something about the darkness to the song. I’m not really a fan of sunny days, so the first line alone I can relate to.

2. If you could have anybody else’s life, who’s would you take and why?
My brother, Darius, because he’s the golden child that my parents look up to. Me? Not so much. I’m the disappointment.

3. What fictional character do you relate to most?
Dracula. LOL. No, seriously? Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

4. If I asked you at age 5 what you wanted to be when you grow up, what would the answer be?
A firefighter. I always like felt like I could save people and give them another chance at life.

5. What is your biggest irrational fear? Do you think you’ll ever overcome it?
As mentioned before, I don’t really like the sun, so that, and no, probably not. I prefer overcast days.

6. If you could take us anywhere in the world right now what would your choice be and why?
Some remote island with a select few. After my club got shut down and was taken from me, I prefer to steer clear of the crowds.

Q&A Lara

1. Describe the biggest regret in your life.
Marrying my ex-husband, Milo, was the biggest mistake I ever made. Had I known his true personality I would have never agreed to date him in the first place, but he managed to keep his possessive tendencies hidden until after our first year of marriage.

2. Can you describe the moment in your life when you were happiest?
The happiest day of my life was the day Milo proposed. I had all these fantastic plans for us, for our future, but none of them came true.

3. What song makes you unconditionally sad? Why?
My Immortal by Evanescence. Every time I hear it, I’m reminded of the life I had before Milo. His ghost refuses to give me peace, haunting me, tormenting me; there is no end to the suffering.

4. If past lives are real, describe one of yours.
I pray there are no past (or future) lives. If that is possible, Milo will chase me into my next life.

5. Have you ever seen something you can’t explain? If yes, what was it?
Milo is a ghost, there’s not much that has happened to me that I can’t explain. I do believe in the paranormal, and I’m certain there are more creatures out there than just Milo.

6. Describe something you would do if there were no consequences for your actions.
I’d move to the beach. I’m trapped in my house, living there to prevent Milo from following me to a new town and leaving a trail of bodies that he has possessed and drained the life from. I just want to be free.
