Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a full-time writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share to introduce yourself.

I have lived in North Central Florida since 1988 when I moved south from western New York. I am currently a legal assistant and have worked for the same attorney for almost two decades. I married in 1991 and my daughter was born a year later. I am now Gramma to two grandsons (ages 2 and 5), with a third due later this year. Since my son-in-law is in the Air Force, they’ve been stationed in Okinawa, Japan, for the last four years. This has given me plenty of time to focus on writing, but I’m also a huge outdoors person. I love hiking and taking photos of anything and everything. A couple years ago, I started volunteering at a local wildlife rescue and got into fostering baby orphaned squirrels. I currently have two babies who are in the process of being released, and they make a dozen or so that I’ve raised and returned to the wild. Some of my favorite things (that I don’t do often) are salt water fishing, walking on the beach, and traveling. I do, however, spent an awful lot of time watching the Hallmark Channel.

1.  What genre(s) do you write in and why?

I primarily write some form of romance – sweet, contemporary, suspense, fantasy, magic. If I’m in a bad mood, I write horror, but I’m trying to focus on romance.

2.  What’s your favorite beverage?

Mountain Dew, all the way (but please don’t tell my diabetes coach! Tell her I said water.)

3.  If you had to listen to one song over and over again for a whole day, what would it be?

Settling Down by Miranda Lambert

4.  What is your least favorite part of writing?

The inability to get one thing finished before I have three new ideas pop up.

5.  If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

New Zealand – I love the outdoors and unlike Australia, there isn’t much wildlife that would kill me. The hiking is gorgeous, the people are friendly, and the accents are amazing.

6.  Are you an avid reader? When you do read someone else’s writing, what is your favorite genre?

I used to be a huge reader until I got deep into writing. I’ll read just about anything but horror – like haunted houses, monsters, things that go bump in the night (not psychological) – is one of my favorites.

7.  Where do you get the ideas for your stories?

Everywhere. I’ll see something in the middle of the woods, I’ll hear someone say something, I’ll see a painting – and stories just pop in my head. I’m also an avid dreamer and several ideas come from that.

8.Tell me about your ideal reader.

My ideal reader will laugh with me, cry with me, and just interact in general – kick me in the ass when I need it, toss encouragement my way, offer ideas and criticism. The whole package.

9.  If you were to choose one superpower, what would it be?

Teleporting – just snap my fingers and be where I want to go.

10. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published?

My next book comes out May 2nd – it’s one in my Grouper Cove Series, and it’s part of the multi-author Pet Shop Series.

Sweet Ass Sunsets Burb

Paula owns a bakery in Grouper Cove, and Mason moves his pet store into the adjacent retail space, which also serves as an adoption center for various rescues. While she’s coping with a bridezilla, he’s coping with raising a teenage sister while assisting his older pregnant sister. When a miniature donkey and his two pygmy goat cohorts decide they need a sugar fix, sweet chaos ensues.

  1. “When I’m in a bad mood, I write horror”! I love this!
    Nice to meet you, Lorah.

    Thanks, Karen and Lorah.

  2. Good morning, Lorah, and welcome to Karen’s Killer Book Bench. I love the premise of this book! Cannot wait to get to this story in the anthology.

I, too, would love the ability of teleportation. I think that’s the one “futuristic” detail from my favorite Star Trek series I could wrap my head around. Like Samantha Steven’s nose twitches. LOL

  3. This book sounds like a great read, Thank you for sharing about it. I also enjoyed reading the interview. Have a Great weekend and stay safe.
