Novel Gems ~ 10-16-12 ~ Killing Secrets by Karen Docter

Welcome to Novel Gems ~ Killing Secrets 10-16-12!

I love to sneak a peek into a writer friend’s developing novel. It’s just so much fun watching their story grow and getting the inside scoop.  So every Tuesday until I finish my romantic suspense, Killing Secrets, I’ll share a gem with you ~ a couple of sentences, several paragraphs of a pivotal scene, or a phrase that just made me sigh or laugh out loud or scares me or…well, you get the picture.

A bit of set up for today’s gem….

Trying to share character information within a scene with only one paragraph of description can be challenging, except when it works…and that’s all you’re getting! 🙂

Happy Reading!

Killing Secrets by Karen Docter

She fingered her toast, smearing jam on her thumb.  She licked it off, the sweet burst of fruit flavor on her tongue reminding her she hadn’t eaten much at dinner the previous night after throwing up everything.  Suddenly starving, she didn’t stop until she’d eaten two pieces of toast smothered in strawberry jam, a slice of juicy melon Patrick put in front of her, and two cups of coffee.  It was more breakfast than she’d eaten in a long while, usually opting for coffee and a Pop Tart before running off to wrestle Kolthern Nurseries back into the black after Greg had nearly bankrupted Katy’s livelihood.

….see you next Tuesday with another NOVEL GEM!
