Riverton’s straight-laced pediatric nurse, Maren Larkin, has a type: Officer Clay Morrow. Her best friend’s older brother. Her ride home after bad shifts. Very, very off-limits.

This Halloween, Bree talks them both into a costume scavenger hunt through Ashgrove, Riverton’s most haunted former sanitarium. Six couples, four stations, and one deeply unfair rule: dress as your partner’s profession. Maren spends the night playing cop, badge, unicorn band-aids, and all. Clay spends it playing nurse with unsettling ease. After two years of knowing every detail of her life, he can fake being her better than she can fake being herself.

Local legend says a nurse named Ada Whitfield lost her engagement ring somewhere in these haunted halls eighty years ago, and that whoever finds it is destined to be stuck together for life. Six couples go looking for a ring and a $10,000 prize. Only one couple’s about to find a lot more than that.

Add a very committed matchmaker sister, a basement full of unsettling taxidermy, and a wine-soaked kiss neither of them has mentioned in eight months, and Maren’s “just friends” story won’t survive the night.

Cop on the Scavenger Haunt is a sweet-with-heat Halloween novella where two years of unspoken feelings, one haunted sanitarium, and a little Halloween magic prove that the best love stories are the ones you can’t outrun. This series stands alone, but it’s more fun when you read them all.

5 Stars A lovely, heartwarming read

Most of the time I read romantic suspense or thrillers, but sometimes I need something different, something uplifting. This newest addition to Ms Doctor’s “True love in Uniform” series, is exactly right if you want something heartwarming and relaxing. It’s a beautiful story, very well written, with credible, likeable characters that you root for and a good sense of humor too. Highly recommended! ~ Reader
