Helen Rogers, Character Interview
1. What is your name? Do you have a nickname?
Helen Rogers. No nicknames.
2. Who is your best friend? What kinds of things do you do when you’re together?
My sister. We run the gift shop together. Off hours we like to garden and visit the local area natural attractions. Heaven is a very beautiful place with the coast and the farmland. I like to walk in the woods too.
3. If you have a family, how do you get along with them? If you don’t, are there people in your life that you consider family? How do you get along with them?
It’s just my sister and I and we get along very well. I think she’s more logical while I’m more off the cuff reactionary. Then, I also consider Hattie and Mark family, they are both older so I think of them as the older aunt and uncle.
4. Do you have a birthmark? Scars? Where are they? How did you get them?
Sorry, I don’t have any birthmarks. I have one scar on my knee from falling off my bicycle when I was eight.
5. When you’re angry, what do you do? Where do you go? How do you deal with your anger?
If I’m angry I usually eat. Chocolate is my go to comfort food. I usually try to ask myself what is the reason I’m angry and go from there.
6. If you had to make me a meal right now, without going to the store, what would you find in your refrigerator to feed us?
In my refrigerator you’d find left over half eaten tacos, or sandwiches from the deli. But I’d probably make you a bowl of chicken soup and a grilled cheese.
7. What’s the one thing you’re afraid of losing?
Losing my friends, and my sister. We’re not getting any younger so sometimes I think about life without them and that makes me afraid.
8. What makes you laugh out loud?
My friend’s dog. He’s just a four legged comedian. He’ll be in one of my books so I’ll save him for that. You’ll want to read that one!
9. Has anyone broken your heart? Who was he?
Oh yes, a boyfriend…long time ago, but sometimes I think about him. He’s not in town any longer so I guess he’s just a fond memory. But he might just show up in a future book.
10. What’s the one thing you want out of life that you don’t think you can have? Why can’t you have it?
I think I would say the one thing I want most in life is peace of mind. I don’t think that is totally possible in life because we’re influenced by so many people and things that are not in our control.
I grew up in a small town in New York.
I always has a love of reading and it was Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple that got me hooked on mysteries.
Sue Grafton, Patricia Cornwall and Rex Stout were just a few of my favorites.
I spent 30 years as a Director of Human Resources and Development for a major hospitality company.
Now retired I’m going to pursue my passion for mysteries. This time as an author.
I live in western NY with my two dogs Maggie and Spencer and a rescue cat named Inkpot.

Good morning, Kate, and welcome to Karen’s Killer Book Bench. I really like the idea of two sisters acting as amateur sleuths. They’ll know each other well enough to act as foils for each other. Character driven action. I love it. Can’t wait to read their story. Thanks for sharing it with us today.
