A KILLING RAIN
The Killing Fire Series, Book 2
BY FAYE SNOWDEN

Blurb

A dark, Southern gothic tale of homicide detective Raven Burns, with a complicated past and a desperate case to solve.

After former homicide Raven Burns returns to Byrd’s Landing, Louisiana to begin a new life, she soon finds herself trapped by the old one when her nephew is kidnapped by a ruthless serial killer, and her foster brother becomes the main suspect. To make matters worse, she is being pursued by two men— one who wants to redeem her soul for the murder Raven felt she had no choice but to commit, and another who wants to lock her away forever.

REVIEW

“While A Killing Fire was one of my favorite novels of the past several years, I loved A Killing Rain even more. Propelled by marrow-deep characterization and a twisty pressure cooker of a plot, this book will frighten, surprise, and move you. I was captivated from beginning to end. Faye Snowden is a blazing talent and one of the best storytellers working today.” — Jonathan Janz, Author of The Siren and the Specter and The Dark Game

Character Interview
Byrd’s Landing Homicide Detective

Raven Burns

What one word best describes you? That depends. The one word that describes me to my enemies or those I love? I will answer both. For my enemies, formidable. For those I love, loyal. I’ll stop at nothing to help them. But you already know this. Look at what I’ve already done.

What are you passionate about these days? Starting a new life. Forgetting my past as a homicide detective and starting over. Maybe there’s more than one way I can do some good in this world.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you? I have a soft heart? No, I’m kidding. That I don’t know if you can make it through this life by being good all the time, or even most of the time. Being successful requires that sometimes, you tap into your dark side.

You just won a huge lottery what is the first thing you’d buy? I’d buy Billy Ray, my former partner, the biggest, nicest restaurant he’d want, with celebrity chefs, and a big kitchen where everything sparkled. All of it. I’d buy him his dream.

Who should play you in a film? Have you ever seen a mystery TV show ‘Big Sky’? Kylie Bunbury. She would make a great me.

Do you play any sports? Not team sports. But I run, and especially like trail running.

What would we find under your bed? Absolutely nothing. I am very serious about my place being clean, about things around me being in order. Nothing would be under my bed but an exceptionally clean floor.

What is something you want people to know about you? They shouldn’t cross me.

Tell us about your greatest achievement. I’m going to assume legal. My greatest achievement was figuring out who was killing some of Byrd’s Landing finest. I cleared that case, and restored some good in this world.

What was the scariest moment of your life? Being in the backyard of Billy Ray’s house while everything around us was burning.

Is there a piece of advice that you have received that has really stuck with you? If so, what was it? It stuck with me because I so disagreed with it at the time. It was my mentor telling me that I should not have become a homicide detective in the first place. If I had only listened.

If you could apologize to someone in your past, what would you say? I would say that they were right. The path of blood and murder was not the right one for me. But I’m trying to change it. I really am. I would say this while standing at their grave.
