CANDY CANE CHRISTMAS
A Holiday Story
BY BECKY MUTH
Every year on Christmas Eve, our family would drive over the river and through the woods to visit my paternal grandparents. They lived right down the road of the church I grew up in, and we’d kick off the evening by attending the Nativity Play.
Throughout the years, I graduated from spectator to member of the unofficial kids’ choir (because that was pretty much the only time of year we kids did any kind of singing on stage), to participant. A few times, I even played Mary.
Those nativity plays are some of my favorite memories of Christmas from that time. After the Nativity scene, Santa arrived. He sat in his chair, and we’d gather around to hear him read A Visit from St. Nicholas, the poem by Clement Clarke Moore. (It’s also commonly known as ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.)
As soon as Santa read the final line, “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night,” us kids would line up to receive our gift—a giant peppermint stick, and a navel orange the size of a grapefruit.
Afterward, we’d go back to my grandparents’ house to open gifts with family. On the way home, we’d almost always tear into the giant candy canes. Today I prefer the smaller versions, and although flavors range as far and wide as the physical distance between those of you who read this, peppermint will always be my favorite.
And those candy canes are the inspiration for my holiday tale, Candy Cane Christmas. You can get your free copy right here: https://BookHip.com/LBBXNLF
No matter what you celebrate or who you celebrate with, or if you celebrate at all, I hope that you’re surrounded by all the warmth the season has to offer.
Happy reading,
Becky Muth

Good morning, Becky, and welcome back to Karen’s Killer Book Bench. I love Christmas, too, and have some fond memories from my childhood. Now, I’m trying to make some good memories with my youngest grandson, living close to us. We hope to create similar memories with Liam as he grows up. Your book sounds like a great Christmas treat, too. Can’t wait to read it. Thanks for sharing it with us today!
