Welcome to my Friday bonus feature called Karen’s Killer Fixin’s **Author Special**!! Today, in lieu of one of my own recipes, I’m going to introduce you to a new author who will share one of her favorite recipes. Not only will you and I occasionally learn how to make something new and delicious, but we’ll get a chance to check out some wonderful authors. Introducing author, ADRIANA ANDERS, and her favorite recipe for FIRST DATE SOUP (CURRIED SWEET POTATO)!
Survival Instincts Book 1
BY ADRIANA ANDERS
“Scorching hot and beautifully emotional. A pulse-pounding, edge-of-your-seat read.”—LORI FOSTER, New York Times Bestselling Author
With a storm coming and a killer on the loose, every step could be their last…
Angel Smith is finally ready to leave Antarctica for a second chance at life. But on what was meant to be her last day, the remote research station she’s been calling home is attacked. Hunted and scared, she and irritatingly gorgeous glaciologist Ford Cooper barely make it out with their lives…only to realize that in a place this remote, there’s nowhere left to run.
Isolated with no power, no way to contact the outside world, and a madman on their heels, Angel and Ford must fight to survive in the most inhospitable—and beautiful—place on earth. But what starts as a partnership born of necessity quickly turns into an urgent connection that burns bright and hot. They both know there’s little chance of making it out alive, and yet they are determined to weather the coming storm—no matter the cost.
“That’s bananas.” Whoever was in that plane was out of their mind. Couldn’t they see what they were flying into?
“Yeah.” He swung around to look at the quickly moving storm, then back at the plane again. Was it closer than before? “They want our virus. Badly.”
For the first time since they’d started this terrible trip, Angel almost wished they’d left the samples back at base. Almost, until that nightmarish image flashed back—that moment when Sampson had put his gun to Alex’s head, and the handful of seconds afterward, when disbelief morphed into gut-squeezing shock. It would never leave her. The whole thing—the feeling of it—had been imprinted into her brain, into every cell, every part of her being.
Her eyes flicked from one quickly approaching threat to the other. In one direction, the blizzard swept angrily toward them, in the other, the red dot grew larger, carrying men who would do absolutely anything to get their payload. “What are you thinking?” she asked, afraid she knew the answer.
“I’m thinking we’re screwed.”
“Right.” She nodded. They already knew that anyway.
Closer now, the wind whipped ice crystals into the air, like sugar spinning into cotton candy. Even through the whistling, she thought she heard the sound of an engine.
“What do we do now?”
He shoved his empty bag away and grabbed his ski poles, so she did the same.
“We run.” He turned and led her straight into the coming storm.

FIRST DATE SOUP (CURRIED SWEET POTATO)
NOTE FROM ADRIANA: This is a recipe that I always eyeball, rather than counting out the ingredients. It’s best to do it to taste, since it can get spicy if you’re not careful.
Three large sweet potatoes (can be done with more or less. This should feed about 4 people)
1 can coconut milk
1 tablespoon Olive oil, avocado oil or other preferred cooking oil.
1tsp – 2 tablespoons Green Thai curry paste (Indian curry powder will do, if no paste available)
1 1-inch piece Fresh Ginger, grated (or 1 tsp powder, if no fresh is available)
Water (or veggie or chicken stock, if preferred)
1-3 onions or shallots, diced (optional)
- Peel and slice sweet potatoes boil until tender, drain.
- In soup pot, add olive oil, curry paste, and ginger. If using onions, add them now.
- Cook over low heat until fragrant. If using onions, cook until translucent or slightly caramelized.
- Add sweet potatoes. Cover with water or stock.
- Simmer over medium heat for an additional 15 minutes.
- Blend (I use a submersion blender)
- Add can coconut milk and salt to taste.
- Serve with crusty bread for dipping!
Thanks, Adriana, for sharing your book with us!
