She hasn’t seen him or heard from him in years, but he still haunts her dreams.

Excerpt
By the time Esther pulled into a parking space at the courthouse she was ready to scream with frustration. Why had he insisted she follow him? He could have just given her a ticket and let her head to his sister’s house for some good company! When she’d called Cassy she’d gotten no answer. She left a short message that she was behind schedule with no longwinded explanation.
Should she take her weapon inside or leave it in the car? Before she could decide, a knock on her window made her turn left. Gray’s eye’s frowned through the glass. She lowered her window. “What?”
“What’s keeping you? Grab the jacket with your gun and come inside with me.”
“My—“
“Esther, I know you’re carryin’. Come with me.”
She clicked the unlock button. By the time grabbed her keys and her gun and purse he had opened her door. That put her face at the level of his belt and zipper. He was clearly as aroused as she was. Soooo not good. Her gaze moved up to his muscular chest, then his badge. Under the streetlight she got a better look at his badge and name plate. Sheriff Gray … Oh, dear Lord. He was the sheriff, not a deputy or a patrolman. She jerked her eyes to his.
“Sheriff?” She couldn’t stand without full body contact. He didn’t move, but he reached his hand to her. When she took it the rough callouses made her shiver. He must still be working the family ranch. Sliding from the seat and then rising, she stood so close she could feel his body heat inviting her to make full contact. Only the sound of a car passing on the street kept her from doing just that.
“It’s been a long time.” His voice was so deep she could feel it rumble in his chest within inches of hers.
Mary Marvella has been a storyteller for as long as she can remember. She made up the “Let’s Pretend” situations for the neighborhood kids. The arrival of the book mobile was as exciting as hearing the music of the ice cream truck, more, since she could check out books but seldom had the money for the ice cream. Her parents preferred letting her walk to the corner store for less money. She still pinches pennies.
When Mary’s daughter was small, story time often meant Mama made up stories. Now retired from teaching the classic works of the masters, Mary writes her own stories and reads modern novels.
Georgia raised, she writes stories with a Southern flair.
Mary writes as Mary Marvella and as M M Mayfield.
She has 9 published novels and novellas and more short stories.
Mary is the line editor for Gilded Dragonfly Books and works with private clients.

FAVORITE CROCKPOT DINNER
Note from M.M.: I’m not a big recipe person, just as I’m not a big plotter. I bought a crock-pot last year. It is now my favorite pot or pan, except for cooking fish and adding spinach.
Ingredients:
Roasted chicken or 2 chicken breasts or 2 or 3 frozen hamburger patties.
bag of frozen green beans (2 cups or so, depending on the size of the crock-pot
bag of frozen okra (2 cups)
a few small carrots ( a dozen small ones)
2 or three cubed potatoes (cube, don’t peel.)
salt, pepper, turmeric, garlic salt (I don’t measure.)
broth, usually chicken (1 cup)
Water, 2 or three cups. (cover the meat and veggies)
Cooking oil or coconut oil (a tablespoon to start)
I usually begin with a roasted chicken bought from any grocery store. Sometimes I grab a chicken breast or 2 or frozen hamburger patties. Place the meat of choice into the crock-pot.
Add oil and some water to allow the meat to steam. I usually cook on high for a couple of hours.
I add the vegetables and allow the full pot to cook at least another hour. As the mixture cooks down I can add any spices that seem good to me. I don’t measure. I sprinkle, stir, then taste.
By the time the okra is cooked to mush and the liquid is thick with that okra or the potatoes, I spoon put small amounts and taste. At this point I put set the control to low.
I can eat from this batch for several days. Once I am full for the day or evening, I cut the heat off so I can put the container into the refrigerator for the night. If I have leftovers, I add them to the mixture to heat.
This dish contains meat and vegetables and lots of nutrients and takes little tending while I work.
Feel free to add leftovers from other meals.

Samantha., I am glad you liked it.
I love Esther’s story. It’s sassy and sweet. The other stories in the book are each by a different and have a special touch. Clark’s Folly is a fun place to visit.
