COOKING UP TROUBLE
A Mill Pond Romance
BY JUDI LYNN
Blurb
Tessa Lawrence swore off men when she found her fiancée in the arms of another woman. These days, she concentrates on caring for her small farm and running a bakery and farm stand out of its barn. Ian McGregor moves to Mill Pond to build a resort on the property next to Tessa’s. Tessa’s fine with that. Mill Pond’s trying to attract more tourists. The problem is, Ian understands business, but he’s never changed a tire or pounded a nail. She finds herself helping him more than she expected, and spending time around Ian is a dangerous proposition. The man’s far too good-looking and fun to be around.

Excerpt
Ian had the gleam in his eyes that true shoppers get. Tessa sighed. She avoided shopping as much as possible. It showed. Her outfits needed updating. She never thought about it until she stood next to Lily or Leona, but she could use some spiffing up. But today was dedicated to finding antiques for Ian’s lodge, so she started toward Pierceton.
They hit every shop there and still went on to Angola. Ian bought an old-fashioned horse collar to hang on the wall. He bought a quilt. Tessa had to curb him when he found braided rugs in all sizes. They settled on a half dozen. By the time they started back to his lodge, she couldn’t fit one more item in her truck.
Halfway home, Ian pointed at a root beer stand on the side of the road. “We should stop there, get something to eat. Then we don’t have to worry about anyone taking what we bought.”
Like he’d worried before. Not. She couldn’t keep him out of a store. Tessa pulled in, and Ian pressed the button on the speaker to place their orders. Tessa got two chili dogs, and he got a pork tenderloin sandwich. When he bit into it, he groaned with pleasure. “I’ve heard about these. I’ve never had one.”
“You’ve never had a PT deluxe?”
He shook his head. “I think it’s a Midwest thing.”
Tessa couldn’t imagine life without one. While they ate, they talked about where he was going to place each piece of furniture and each accessory he’d bought. On the drive back to his lodge, he could hardly wait to start carrying things inside.
About Author Judi Lynn…
When some people think of Indiana, they think of corn—which we have a lot of. But to me, Indiana is green—lush, beautiful, vibrant greens—so I use fictional towns and plunk them in an Indiana setting for a lot of my stories. I love cooking and gardening, and those sneak into my novels, too. I’ve collected more strays than I deserve. I’m a fan of Agatha Christie and urban fantasy, and I believe in happy ever after.

Don’t miss the chance to read this book!
Thanks you so much for inviting me to your blog. I was newly married and teaching first grade when Eleanor (who was one of those old-school, wonderful third grade teachers) gave me this recipe. She knew I had a TINY amount of cooking skills under my belt and was doing my best to learn. She said this was a no-fail recipe, and she was right. My husband loved it. I think of her every time I make it.
Yum!! That’s for both, the chili and the book.
Judi Lynn, you are my kind of person. I also believe in happily ever after. I am a true Midwestern myself born and raised in Iowa. I have special feels for your book you shared with us today. I have to read it. A man who has never had a pork tenderloin is unheard-of I have to know more.
Thank you for the recipe also. It sounds good!
Good morning, Judi, and welcome to Karen’s Killer Book Bench. I can relate to Tessa’s dislike of shopping. If I can have something delivered to my door, I’m a happy camper. And, thankfully, my dear husband does a lot of our grocery shopping. 🙂
Thanks for the chili recipe, too. Sounds easy and yummy.
Thanks, Karen and Judi! This sounds like a very fun read! Fish out of water is always interesting…re adaptability!
