A Dark Contemporary Romance
BY CLAIRISSA SINCLAIR
Blurb
Betsy begins her young life on the run from a father she never knew. Her bitter mother supports her children as a stripper and numbs her pain with men, pills and cheap booze. Her brother, James, is her only friend and her protector as they move around from slum to slum in an effort to stay one step in front of the law and anonymous. The boy that kept her safe, grows into a man that follows in his mother’s footsteps. His addictions leading to debts that he can’t pay back on his own and he manipulates his sister into performing certain “favors” for his friends to pay them off.
James eventually sells his sister to the ruthless and cold Anthony Henderson, who uses her submissive nature and burning desire to be loved against her. Betsy is no more, under his control. She’s evolved into Pink Kitty # 462, the perfect trained slave and highlight of the Henderson’s auction.
When the hammer falls a new master carries his prize into the night where he educates her, dresses her, feeds her and trains her to be the beautiful puppet wife he desires and she despises.
What happens next when his enemies take him prisoner, and she is left on her own? For the first time in her life, she is forced to make her own choices and discover her own fate. Changing her name to Jules, she leaves the anguish of her submissive past and her previous identities behind, and forges ahead as her own person, in search of a new life and the chance for true happiness and love.

THE EVOLUTION OF JULES
A Dark Contemporary Romance
BY CLAIRISSA SINCLAIR
Introducing Jules Winter
Jules is my own creation. I believe that all of us are damaged by life, but like my mama always said “you don’t learn the value of a ship by how well she sails in calm waters, but by how she navigates in the stormiest of seas.” Jules had a sh*t show of a young life. Even when she was sold to the Russian, she was a beautiful toy with no identity of her own. If you read the book, you might notice that she didn’t even really have a first name during that time of her life. It wasn’t until…well…I’m not going to spoil the story. She found her own voice, her own identity and her own love in the end. This is her interview.
The Evolution of Jules is available on Amazon and in paperback. It has some very rough spots and may contain triggers for some people.
Character Interview
Editor’s Note: Edited for language
Why did you choose this author to tell your story? Clairissa understands that the strongest women come from the roughest beginnings.
What is the greatest challenge you’ve ever faced? I was taken by men who would use me to hurt my husband, while I was pregnant. I was terrified, but I knew I was my baby’s only hope and I had to be strong. It’s kind of the story of my life.
What is something no one knows about you? I collect heart necklaces. I wear a different one every day. They remind me of the love I have and cherish.
Who are your best friends and why? Jake is really my best friend. I have plenty of girlfriends here in Georgia. Lizzie and the other girls at the best, but Jake is my whole heart.
What is the worst pain you ever felt? Physically–being branded. I can’t even describe it other to say that it was excruciating and lasted for days. Emotionally–too many to list, I guess, but I don’t like to dwell on it.
What song should be your theme song? The one that will play every time you walk into a room. “I will Survive”
Tell me about your significant other. Jake is my everything. He made me grow up. He made me find my own identity. He made me stronger. He always believes in me. He’s handsome and sexy as f**k, too!
Do you consider yourself to be a “good person”? Next question.
Who would you want to play you in the movie version of your life? Who would play your SO? Hmm….Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
Do you consider yourself a hero or a heroine and why? Why not? Probably not. I’m just a wife and mom. The past needs to stay in the past.
What was your childhood like? F**king miserable, when I think about it now. At the time, my brother and I made the best of it and I just didn’t know any other way.
Tell me about your parents? My dad is great! Even though he wasn’t part of my life until I was an adult, we’re close. He retired and moved closer to be a dad and a grandpa. We have Sunday dinner every week and he’s always taking the boys fishing or helping Jake rip a motor apart. I can’t imagine my life without him. My mother, well, she was an evil c**t.
What is your favorite book of all time? Anna Karenina
Imagine yourself as being 80 years old. Tell me where you’re at and what kind of person you are. Jake and I will be together, in rocking chairs, watching our great great grandkids play before we sneak off for a viagra induced love making session.

NOTE FROM CLAIRISSA: This recipe combines two of my favorite snacks into one sizzling appetizer. I always took either poppers or traditional eggrolls to events. Last Christmas I combined them into one delicious treat. You control the heat with the amount jalapeno. They can be super hot or just a little spicy. Guaranteed to be the first tray emptied at any gathering.
CHICKEN JALAPENO POPPER EGGROLLS
1 package of egg roll wrappers (find them in the produce section)
Canola oil for frying (about an inch in the pan)
Filling:
Two chicken breasts, cooked and fork pulled
1 package of bacon–cooked and crumbled.
1 eight oz package of cream cheese (softened)
1 eight oz shredded sharp cheddar
1 eight oz Mexican Blend
1 teaspoon Garlic Salt
1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon of chili powder
Jalapeno peppers–minced-fresh or pickled–((note: If you buy fresh, which I prefer, wear gloves to chop them. The residue will be on your hands for hours afterwards.)) Use plenty of fresh ones if you like spice. I use at least a dozen, but we like it spicy. Minced that is about a cup and a half, depending on size. If you like them milder, try the picked ones and maybe use 1/2-3/4 cup.
Heat oil in a cast iron skillet or a deep fryer.
Mix filling ingredients together. Lay egg roll wrappers at an angle, like a baseball diamond, with “home plate” pointing towards you. Using a big spoon, scoop out about a table spoon and a half of mixture and place it in the middle. Fold “home plate” over the filling and slide it back towards you to compact it. (Don’t worry, it takes practice! The first few might be a little messy.) Fold “first base” over the top, making sure that the opening is completely sealed. Do the same with “third base”. Dab the remaining sides with just a little bit of water with your finger. Roll tightly towards second base. Try to keep them solid with no air pockets or it will bubble up when you fry.
Gently drop eggrolls into hot oil. Carefully flip over when golden brown. They will be very hot when they come out! Let them cool down a little before you bite into them.
Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce–sour cream and onion dip, salsa ranch dressing, or guacamole.

Don’t miss the chance to read this book!
recipe sounds tasty
Holy Cow! Now that is a Comdex set up to a complex story! Curious to know the genesis of this story line.
My kids will love the recipe….my stomach sure won’t! 😉
Let me know how you like the book and the eggrolls!
Darn auto correct! “Complex”!!!!
Good morning, Clairissa, and welcome to Karen’s Killer Fixin’s. Wow, the story sounds as intense as I’m sure the recipe is. I love poppers like this, even though my mouth sometimes balks. I’ll have to give them a try. Poor Jules. She has had it rough. Thanks for letting us get an insight into what drives her!
The recipe sounds amazing. A new author for me, enjoyed the post today. Sounds like a good one!
I’m not crazy about peppers, but I think the recipe without them sounds perfectly tasty. Jules sounds like she has had to find a backbone to save herself. Thanks for the recipe and the giveaway!
