It’s time for Karen’s Killer Fixin’s!

Over the years, I’ve filled two 4-inch, 3-ring binders with my own creations as well as recipes my family and friends were willing to share with me. I simply love to cook and want to share that love with my readers. Every Friday, I share a recipe that I think you and your family might enjoy. It might be a main course recipe from my own kitchen or a guest author’s favorite. It could be a cookie or a baked item. Candy. Salads. Whatever strikes the eye and fancy…which today is HELPFUL HINTS from KAREN’S KITCHEN!!

Even the thought of cooking anything while we’re under this heat dome (ugh, it has a NAME) makes me cringe. So, today, I thought I might share some helpful hints I’ve learned over the years that make my life easier. Maybe you don’t know some of these.

I hope you enjoy today’s Killer Fixin’s. Happy eating!

SIX HELPFUL HINTS
[From Karen’s Kitchen]

  1. To prevent ice cream drips, stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone.
  2. When making Rice Krispies Treats, run your hands under cold water before pressing the mixture in your pan so the marshmallow doesn’t stick to your fingers. (Yes, you can also accomplish this with butter on your hands, although you can claim fewer calories…if that’s even an issue with Rice Krispies Treats. Snort.)
  3. To get the most juice from fresh lemons, bring them to room temperature and roll them under your palm on the kitchen counter before squeezing.
  4. Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting it in the refrigerator. It will keep the celery crisp for weeks.
  5. Don’t throw out leftover wine. Like this is a thing! Snort. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in soups and sauces.
  6. When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

Have a great Fourth of July!
