THE FUTURE BETWEEN US
(The War Within)
BY STEFANIE BRIDGES-MIKOTA
BLURB
With the world at war and her home states away, can distance and letters bring them together?
Oliver Hubbard yearns to fly, but earning his wings first means hitting the books, and school has never come easy. Still, he’s determined to become a pilot, and when Pearl Harbor is bombed, he jumps at the chance to enlist in the Army Air Corps.
The decision means facing danger that could not only cost him his dream, but his life.
Oliver’s childhood friend, Sorcha Pilchuck, loves her family farm and has no desire to leave. But when her impulsive sister decides to move to the city, Sorcha feels a duty to go along and watch out for her. City life is tough for Sorcha, and protecting her sister from her own bad decisions only makes it more difficult.
Through letters, Oliver and Sorcha share their challenges, their fears, and their hopes for the future, creating a bond that helps them face the hardest times in their lives. Could they possibly find happiness together amidst the pain and sacrifice of war?

THE FUTURE BETWEEN US
(The War Within)
BY STEFANIE BRIDGES-MIKOTA
Interview
This time of year, the time between Thanksgiving and the December holidays, I find myself drifting back. I love to think about how those who came before us would be celebrating. What their day to day lives would look like. What would be different between one century to another. So, when I got the chance to write a series where each book started right in this middle time, I jumped.
“Dec 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy”, the words by President Franklin D. Roosevelt that all Americans heard come across their radios and printed in newspapers, right in the middle of this almost sacred time. For the World War II years, December would not feel the same for 5 long years and after that, for many it would never again be the same. I wrote these stateside WWII series books as a way to give honor to those who stayed working on the home front. I wanted to memorialize those who fought the war, not in battle, but here in rations and choices and changes that would alter the direction of their lives, change their goals and dreams, and propel them to the new American future no one knew was coming.
The Future Between Us starts that series. Each book is stand alone, and shows the sacrifices made by the women left behind as their men marched into battle. If you give it a try or not, as we spend our festive time celebrating this merry time, may we take a moment to honor those who gave all for us to have today.
