“You return at a perilous time for all the denizens of Hell,” Lord Bezromuth started.
“Perilous? In what way, My Lord?” Malik asked before anyone else could.
“Those who are not of Hell may not know this, but Lucifer has only one heir. His daughter, Kaiya. She has spent much of her time of late in the human realm for reasons that are unknown to any but her.
“As a result of her apparent affinity for the human realm, there are some demons who believe that Lucifer should choose a new heir. They do not feel she has Hell’s best interests in mind. Some also believe Hell needs a king to rule it, not a queen.
“Those demons of this line of thought have come together and are threatening war unless Lucifer concedes to their demands. Our king is calling on all those who are loyal to the throne to join the fight.”
“And where, My Lord, do we stand on this issue?” I asked.
“All of Briafoven is loyal to the throne and our king,” he replied and I relaxed a little. I really didn’t want to get on Lucifer’s bad side right out of the gate. “You can take today to relax, but in two days we will travel to Ciovexath for you to swear your allegiance to Lucifer. Tomorrow you will swear fealty to me as you officially become my heir,” he informed me.
